short.

Mustard Pencil Skirt/Brooch: Made by Me.  Blouse: The Loft.  Cardi/Shoes/Ring: Target.  Tights: Ross.

Whenever I wear flats to church I feel exceptionally short.  I don’t know if it has something to do with the fact that every other woman is clad in heels, so it makes them even taller, but I find myself looking up uncomfortably at them and wondering why I suddenly feel like I should grab their hand like a little monkey and ask if we can pretty please get some ice cream later?

And then as I was standing with the littles at the bus stop this morning, looking at one of the other kids waiting to get on the bus and I realized, that girl couldn’t have been over 9 and she was almost as tall as me.

Nine.

I realize now why I felt so short on Sunday.

It’s because I am.

Short.

Absolutely love the brooch you made! I bought a gorgeous little outfit for my 5 year old today and it’s got a flower brooch on the top. She’ll look cute for sure.
Love your blouse as well, ruffles, aww!
As for height, I know what you are talking about being just 5 ft myself. Seems I’m forever looking up instead of down.

Oh Cori. I could write a post about this as well! I’m 4’11.5” and I used to teach 2nd grade. By the end of the year most of the boys were almost as tall, if not taller than me. I taught 3rd grade one year but the boys always outgrew me. I swore I’d never teach higher than 3rd grade for the sheer fact that I would be the shortest one in class :) And just think, as we get older, we’ll get shorter :) aaah life :)

I love that skirt. Super adorable. And don’t worry. I feel like a giant no matter where I go, so I know the feeling…. on the opposite side of the spectrum. :)

mustard and fushia combo is one of my faves.

And you know what? Tall people probably feel too tall next to a shorter person.
I feel that way when I walk alongside my 5’1″ friend. I’m 5’7″ and feel weird, like a giant.

Own your shortness. you look fab!

  12. LOL! As a fellow petite, it’s ok, embrace the shortness :P Even when I wear heels I feel short, might have something to do with the fact that my husband is 6’5″!

I am a shorty as well. Some things just make me look sawed off, the length of your skirt would be one of them. You however wear it very well.

You and your outfit look great :) I am 4’11” also and I always wear some type of heel –like always a 3 or 4 inch heel! You look so cute in flats. I just can’t wear them or all of my pants would drag on the floor (I obviously need to learn how to hem!).

Just had to say I completely agree! Even as a “taller person” at 5’1″ I know what you mean about other adults (and most teenagers) outgrowing you. I love flats but am never sure I’m allowed to wear them.

Also wanted to say thanks for your blog. I discovered it a couple of months ago and I have been inspired by the options for those of us who are petite and modest. Thank you!

I hear ya! I’m 5’1” and there is one little old lady at church who is shorter than me, and I feel like an absolute giant looking down at her. I guess that’s just because it’s very odd for me to be looking down at another adult!

Oh, and for the post above this one, your house is gorgeous! Love the paint color below the stairs!

I just couldn’t resist posting on this. I’m 5’7″ and I’m the shortest female in my family. All of the other women are 6′ or taller, and any time I’m around them I feel like I’m about 3 years-old. I live in a house surrounded by men, including my husband’s sons we have 5 boys. They are all well over 6′ tall. My son (our “baby”) is 10 years-old. He’s already 5’9″ tall. I haven’t been able to pick him up since he was 3 1/2 years old. I haven’t been able to have him sit in my lap since he was 5. They are totally capable of making me feel very small.

I hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas.
