review: kids hunter wellies for women.

So I’m not usually much of a “review” type person, but I thought this might be helpful since I spent literally hours researching, and carefully reading all of the customer reviews on Nordstrom’s website before committing to buy my new Kid Hunter wellies, and it would have been really nice to just have had the website list the dang shaft height in the first place, thank you very much.  So in the interested of saving anyone else out there who might be even remotely interested in Hunter’s youth wellies a little time, here you go:

You see, I love hunters.  I even own a pair of women’s original that I found on Ebay several years ago, and they’re like really cute (light blue and everything) except, the shaft height is just way too ridiculously high for a shorty like me.  And I really wanted to have a pair of rain boots that didn’t, you know, cut into my knee uncomfortably when I walk.  Seems like a reasonable request to me.  So anyway, I ordered these little red wellies for my birthday and I couldn’t be happier.  I have worn them almost daily since, and I’m planning to remix them well into spring and summer.  I’m in love, and here’s why:

Shaft height: if you are looking for a shorter shaft height than the towering 16″ of the women’s original tall, these are a much better option.  The kid’s size 4 has a shaft height of 12.5″

Sizes: Youth sizes range from 3-6 which is equivalent to Women’s sizes  5-8.  Hunter doesn’t make half sizes (Boo.  Make half sizes!) So I ordered a size 4. I normally wear a size 5.5.  I decided to size-up half a size and they fit well with a little extra room for thick socks.  Which I am happily wearing since it’s freezing outside right now.

Price: Youth wellies are about half the cost of the women’s version which was a nice little cherry on top for me.  (Usually being as petite as I am means I have to pay more to find things that fit) These boots retail at a happy $75 as opposed to $135 for the women’s.

The only downside, (if you see it that way) is that the youth wellies have reflectors on the back.  I think some people don’t like the reflectors, but I kind of love how it adds a little extra detail to the back of the boot.  You know how I feel about those little extra details… Anyways, I think that’s about it.

I’d definitely recommend these babies, and if you’re on the fence about buying youth rain boots, consider this your invitation to join us shorties already puddle jumping in the hunter pasture.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask in the comments.  ;-)

And a very happy Tuesday to you.

  1. I to…am a bit *horizontally challenged* I’ve passed Hunter boots many a times in various stores…but they always looked so huge!! Will now look into buying the kids range…I was going to buy before but I was worried it would look like I was wearing children’s boots…but you can’t tell at all. Thank you for this…really helpful to me.x

I remember spending hours researching different Hunter Boots as well when I bought my first pair! I didn’t want to go with the shorter shaft boot that came in the wider calf because I just didn’t like the way they looked on me! Thankfully, the shaft sizes do get larger the larger the shoe size and that was my saving grace for my man calves :) I really don’t understand why Hunter doesn’t just having a proper sizing chart – the shaft is this high and this wide for this size. Done!

Those look cute on you, and I can see why you want to mix them into lots of outfits. At 5’3″ I have trouble finding tall boots that aren’t too tall, too. But I’m heading back to flip flop wearing close to the equator. Problem solved. :)

  7. Those boots are simply adorable! I like the idea of a shorter boot instead of the women’s tall boot because they seem more versatile.

Your review is all the confidence I need, gonna get me pair!

You are a genius! I have a hard time as most boots are too widen the calf for me and look super gapey. I am 5’7 but my calves are scrawny and most boots look funny on me. I haven’t tried Hunters yet, I may have to. The light blue ones you spoke of before sound adorable. I wonder if they still sell that colour?!?

I have wanted some Hunter wellies for a while! Problem is the $135 price range is too high for me. I wear a women’s size 5 though and hadn’t even thought of just ordering kids boots. Plus I also am shorter and have a hard time with the “taller” boot shafts not being too tall on me. I am so happy I read this post! Thanks Cori!

  13. I just bought my first pair of Hunter rain boots, too! I’m taller, so I really appreciate the taller height of the regular kind — but I did have to get the style with the adjustable back, rather than the sides, to fit around around my calves.

I wish I had a use for rain boots! They are so cute, but I don’t think I’d get much use out of them in Tucson. :(

It’s the best idea! I bought kids wellies in red too, the last time I was in London, and I love them. They are the perfect height (I’m 5’1) and the price made it extra sweet! I second this recommendation :)

Thanks so much for the review, Cori! Now I want a pair myself! Just had one question though … Are yours the Original Red or the Glossy Red… I think it’s the original, but just wanted to be sure before I take the plunge :) Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I had no idea I could fit in to kid sizes! I’ve been wanting some hunter rainboots for a while but they are so so tall and expensive so I hadn’t gotten them. So so good to know about the kid’s boots. Thanks for reviewing these!

I love your outfit your hair is beautiful. I’m 5’5″ but I think the original talls would be too tall for me also my shoe size is 8 so could i fit in the big kids size. When I look online all the women who wear the talls are tall so they look good but I can’t seem to find a woman my height wearing them. One more thing do they run big? Red is so daring they look really cute. Your hair is beautiful do you do anything special to it or just wash and go?

I’m curious about that too, I’m same height and foot size. I emailed Hunter company and they said I’d be a 7 in boys, but they don’t make them that size…would a 6 be too small? And how wide are the calves!? That’s also holding me back a little!

I have been researching the kids Hunter boot as well. The trouble I’m having is finding a big kids size 6. Any suggestions? I’m starting to believe that the 6 is listed for show, NO ONE has it.

I’ve had a hard time finding a US size 6 too! they are no where to be found! But, since I was looking for a specific color, I ended up buying a new pair off of ebay that were from the UK that were UK size 5. The UK size 5 is the same as a US size 6 so it works perfectly & I got a special color called aubergine (eggplant).

I know this is an old post, but I’m looking for sizing help. Does a UK 5 in the kids hunter boots fit a woman who wears a US size 8? I’ve looked at a few conversion charts, and they are all different…

I believe a 5 translates to a size 7 in women’s. I wear the 4 which translates to a woman’s 6. I usually wear a 5.5 s I sized up rather than down and I love the fit. I think the kids sizes go up to a 6. hope this helps!

Upon reading your review for the Hunter Wellies for kids, I went to Nordstrom and headed out straight to the kids section. Bought me a pair of kids wellies and with my height (5’0) they fit me perfectly. The exact height I wanted my wellies to be. And getting them for half the price isnt bad either. The reflective patches in the back are kind of annoying though. I wish those werent there.. Oh well…

I’m too curious about the calves circumference. My calves are 13.5″ and I’m 5′ tall, so I’m wondering if the kid wellies will work for me. Could you tell us the circumference?

I am 5’1 and about 130 normally. I bought the kids matte black in a size 4 and normally wear a 5.5/6 …these fit perfectly! However, the top part is too tight on my calves so I can’t tuck my pants in which is a total deal breaker for me:/ I am preggo which may be what is making a difference. I really didn’t think my calves were that big:/ Sorry, I don’t know the actual circumference of the top of them…

I am also 4’11” and wear size 5.5 just like you. You gave the shaft measurement 12.5″. Do you know how big is the opening circumference of the boots? I have very small calves and am afraid even with the kids size, the circumference is still big for my legs. Also, what color red are these? Hunter red or military red? Thanks.

I recently bought a pair of kids boots. They are hot pink with reflectors. I just noticed the front label is not white white. It appears light pink with the bold black Hunter lettering outlined with red. Is that normal wear or are these a fake? Thank you!
