Yesterday afternoon, after we watched General Conference, we drove out to the country to explore one of our favorite natural parks.  We took the most heavenly walk with the kids, over a bridge and along the river then stopped for a snack in a beautiful grassy field and had races with the kids around the trees.  It was such a beautiful afternoon.  It’s just starting to look like fall in the PNW.  Everything is green and a few of the trees are starting to turn, just a bit.  The next few weeks are going to be so gorgeous, I’m giddy.  Fall in Seattle is like no where else.  Because there are so many evergreens, when all the other trees start turning golden and red you get this mix of warms and greens.  So, so beyond beautiful.

In the fall, I’m all about layers; especially layers I can run around in.  There are so many  fun things to do outside in the fall: pumpkin patches, golden walks, apple picking, hay rides, exploring the city, and I love to layer in a way that I can be out and about enjoying it all with my kids and not worrying about my clothes.

I’ve been obsessed with J.Crew’s excursion vests since 2 years ago but it wasn’t until I spotted this dreamy navy buffalo print version that I finally pulled the trigger.  I like to invest in interesting prints on wardrobe staples every once in a while, but doing it with intention is key.  Otherwise you can end up with a lot of interesting expensive pieces in your closet and no way to really wear them.  I already have a white puffer vest (that I love and have had for years) it goes with so many things and I wear it all the time this time of year.

I knew I wanted to add another vest to my closet, but that I wanted it to be a little more interesting, i.e.: have a pattern or more color.  I thought about red, or olive, but then I saw this buffalo check beauty and I was sold.  A lot of my wardrobe is navy based or goes with navy, so I thinks it’s a good way to add a fun pattern, that’s also super versatile and can be worn lots of ways with most everything in my closet.

(and ps. you can get it for 25% off right now, using code: SHOPNOW at checkout.)

How do you add interesting patterns to your closet in a way that works for you?

The jeans you have on look different from the link to the nordstrom pair. Specifically, where the rips at the knees are. I really want some like the ones you are wearing, not with the rips higher. Do you know why this is? Thanks!!!

Hi Wendy! these are the exact jeans. They look lighter on the website for some reason. The rips are higher on the model because I am super-duper short. So if you are on the shorter side like me, I would recommend these jeans for you if you want knee rips. If you are taller try this pair: http://bit.ly/1WIShCM they are supposed to be amazing, and i’d like to try them although I’m not sure if they’ll work for me being so petite.
I usually have trouble finding knee rips jeans that aren’t too low for me… hope this helps!
