cozy winter essentials and the best Nordstrom brands for older kids.

Hannah’s: Sweater.(Tucker and Tate-in-store, not available online yet.) Jeans. Booties. Similar Hat. Similar Coat.

My Coat. Scarf. Skinny Jeans. Similar Sweater. Booties.(also similar here.)

Last week we went to a soccer banquet at my kids’ middle school.  I always think my kids are getting so big, and forget that mostly I’m just gauging their size from mine.  And I’m short guys.  I’m so, so short.  Take Hannah, for example, she looks so grown up here, don’t you think?  You’d never know she’s by far the tiniest 8th greater in her school.  Like tiny.  But next to me, she looks like she’s really growing up… and really in every way but height she totally is.

So, Hannah became a teenager this year (which still blows my mind, how do I have a child this old?) and it’s funny how subtly it happens, but suddenly she’s not a little kid anymore.  There are lots of transitions that come with that, and one of them is the way she likes to dress.

When you’re a kid who also happens to be really short like Hannah it can be really tricky to find pieces that fit your age, and also your body.

I’m always telling Hannah how lucky she is, because when I was her age, I was stuck in size 8, and there weren’t a lot of options for me; everything was covered in bows and hearts.  Now there are so many great brands with really cute kid’s clothes that aren’t overly precious.  Which works out really nicely if you’re stuck shopping the kid’s section until, well, to be honest, I still sometimes do.

One of our favorite places to find great pieces for Hannah is Nordstrom.  A lot of my favorite brands at Nordstrom also have kid’s lines, like Blank NYC and Treasure and Bond, and there are also great on trend lines just for kids, like Tucker and Tate, (which is my personal favorite, cause they’ve got really cute stuff that’s super reasonably priced).

The weather just changed here in Connecticut so right now, I’m busy stocking up my kid’s closets with cozy winter essentials.  Here’s what we’re shopping for Hannah right now.

Sweaters:

Hannah takes after me, she’s a total sweater girl.  I picked up this cute Tucker and Tate one (can’t find it online yet) for her on Friday and when she saw it, she actually squealed.  Sweaters are the perfect thing to stock up on this time of year because you can layer them so easily.  Here are some of our favorites:

Coats and Hats:

This is such a “duh,” but coats and hats are a must have this time of year.  I always buy my girls a good classic wool coat, like a peacoat that goes with everything, and then a puffy ski coat as well.  And we are big beanie lovers over here, so of course we stock up on those (and Hannah likes to steal borrow mine now too…)  Here are some of our favorite coats and hats:

Booties:

I don’t know when it happened exactly, but Hannah suddenly stopped wanting to wear tennis shoes to school and she’s been a total boots and booties type girl since.  It’s her favorite this time of year, and I like to buy her ones that I know will easily pair with anything.  Here are some of our favorite booties.

You and your daughter are so cute! She’s a natural model! I was always sooooo tiny all through school. I clearly remember weighing 50pounds
In the 5th grade because there was a boy who weighed kids couldn’t believe I was half his weight. I was maybe 85 pounds when I graduated from high school!
