4 winter coats you need in your closet.

I’m kind of a coat hoarder.  To be honest it’s one of my favorite things to add to my closet.  Maybe it has something to do with being a January baby, but I looooove a good coat.  Good winter coats (that fit) are also hard to find when you’re 4’11”, but in some ways, I think that is a good thing.  It’s made me pickier, I have to look harder to find good ones, which also means I’ve learned a lot about what makes a good winter coat, and which ones you really need in your closet.

This is the perfect time to invest in new outerwear because over the next couple weeks with all the holiday sales happening, there are some really good deals and you can pick up a pretty new winter coat for a steal.  I always ask for a new coat for Christmas or my birthday, and they make really great gifts.  (Or a really great gift idea to send to your hubby…;-)

Before you get shopping I thought I would share my 4 must-have winter coats you need in your closet:

1.A camel coat.  This is like the every coat for your closet.  It goes with everything, can be dressed up and down, and pulled out in a pinch.  Style it effortlessly through the fall, winter and into spring.

2. A tweed/herringbone coat.  I have been looking for the perfect herringbone coat for years guys.  YEARS!  And I finally found this one at Ann Taylor a couple weeks ago.  It comes in petites and the fit is perfect.  It’s very warm but not too bulky and it’s so pretty.  A tweed coat is a must have in your closet, so versatile and classic, double bonus if you can find it in a herringbone weave.

3. A Statement coat.  Winter can be long and dark, so make sure you add at least one fun statement coat to your closet.  Pick a bright color or a bold print.  Just something that pops.  It should say, hey winter, I’m still standing!

4. A Parka.  If you live in a cold climate, you need at least one coat you can brave a blizzard in, #amiright.  I love the parka trend because it gets the keeping you warm job done and still looks super chic.  I’ve seen them styled for the perfect snow day, and dressed up for a night out.  Bonus if you find one with a chic faux fur hood.
