My Dad’s stepdad was a professional tennis player way back in the day; as a kid I remember thinking that was the coolest thing ever.  I mean, my Grandpa was a “professional tennis player!”  Granted I’m sure that the sport was very different back then, but still.  The best part though, was my grandparents had a tennis court in their backyard.  They had one of those amazing backyards that had a pool and spa, a little guest house they called a chalet, and this big tennis court.  I thought it was the biggest back yard in the world.  In the summer when I was a kid, my grandpa would give us tennis lessons.  Now that I look back I think he was really nice and that must have required a lot of patience.  (No, I’m not a good tennis player) Our favorite part of the lesson each week was  driving the machine that scooped up all the balls at the end.  I know, opportunity wasted.  But it sure is a happy memory.

So naturally, when I saw this pretty Ann Taylor tennis shirtdress,(which is currently an extra 50% off) my heart did a little cartwheel and I went ahead and snagged it.  Isn’t it the cutest, most unexpected summer print?  I love it when my clothes are a little surprising and this pretty classic dress with a twist totally fits the bill.  I paired it with a red Kate Spade Bag and my favorite red lip since it’s the Fourth of July tomorrow, but I can’t wait to pair it with some cute flat sandals and my favorite straw bag, and maybe even with some cute sneakers.  It’s the perfect summer dress.

What do you have planned for the fourth of July tomorrow?  We are heading to Rhode Island for a beach day and we plan to stay until evening and watch the fireworks on the water.  I think it’s safe to say, we’re having a ball in New England.
