Hello everyone! How are you on this lovely Monday morning? I seriously meant to have this post up much earlier, but you know how Monday mornings can sometimes be…
On Thursday, while Hannah and I were in NYC the bulk of my Nordstrom Anniversary sale online order arrived. It had most of the pieces I was most excited about, like these beautiful mules and this amazing suede jacket, so I was really happy to open the box on Friday morning. It turned out to be timely, too because the heat finally broke this weekend (on Sunday afternoon) and it’s going to be mid-sixties and rainy for the next couple days. I’m thrilled because it means I can wear a few of my favorite fall purchases from the Nsale. (Let’s be real, I wasn’t going to wear any of those while it was 95 degrees and a million percent humidity last week. No sir-ey.) I decided to pair a little gray with tan and some of my favorite new closet basics.
I feel like this outfit is me paying homage to all my favorite basics. Moto Jackets, for example have to be one of my favorite pieces to layer with through the fall and winter. I am all about suede for fall so I was thrilled when I discovered BlankNYC moto jackets last year, because they run a little small, which meant they actually fit me. When you’re really petite, when it comes to jackets and coats you’re usually at the mercy of the petite section at {insert whichever store} so if they don’t happen to stock the same styles in petites you’re out of luck. But when a jacket runs small! Yippee!
Okay, so let’s talk about mules slides and high waisted jeans. because these are both trends I resisted for a long, long time. I succumbed to the mules earlier this year when I tried a pair of Sam Edelman loafers(you know, to see what all the fuss was about) and never looked back. But these gorgeous Halogen Corbin mules are my favorite pair I’ve ever bought. Seriously, that is how much I love them. They are the chicest shoes ever, so insanely comfortable, and so affordable. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t grab the leopard ones, cause now my size is sold out, but you better believe I’ll believe I am stalking them.
High waisted jeans, I’m still slightly on the fence about, I kind of like the idea of them, but I can never seem to find a pair that looks good on my body. These are definitely the first pair that I have actually really liked on myself, I feel like they are such flattering jeans and the length is even really great for shorties like me (although I’ll probably take a little bit of the length off). Have any of you found high waisted jeans to be tricky?
I’ve been collecting pieces to pack when we go to Paris in September, and I’ll definitely be taking these basics, because they can be mixed and matched with everything. Ironically, the item I’m obsessing the most about is which bag I want to take. I’ve been trying to figure out the right bag to pack for weeks, and I’m still not sure. I’ve been looking at a tone of cross body bags because I feel like that will be the easiest to be running around with and I’ve heard all these horror stories about people getting robbed and those feel like they’re a lot harder to get pick-pocketed out of. The problem is, I’ve been a mom for 13 years which means my commitment to large shoulder Bags runs deep. I like being able to have everything I could possibly need at my beck and call and hanging right from my shoulder. And those little cross body bags just don’t fit as much. But then I’m like, it might be liberating to just walk around with one pair of sunglasses in my bag instead of the three I usually have in my bag. What are your thoughts on that? If you’ve been to Europe, did you worry about getting pick-pocketed? What kind of bag did you carry? Thoughts?
Well, that about does it for this lovely Monday. Dun’t forget the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is still going strong. Good items keep coming back in stock in limited sizes, so if there’s something you missed, keep an eye on it, cause you never know. I try to post over on my Facebook page several times a day when good pieces come back in stock, so you can follow along over there as well!
Hi Cori,
My family and I just got back from a month in Asia. two weeks ago. We went to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Chaing Mai, Thailand. My husband insisted on carry ons only. I almost died; however between the laundry service the ability to buy clothes, it turned out fine. With that being said, I brought a small, sturdy cross body bag that I usually use for traveling. BIG MISTAKE. My kids are 13, 16, and 23. Between them and my husband, I was constantly maneuvering things around in that TINY bag to accommodate an ever growing list of stuff that I needed to hold for them. The passports alone were troublesome to get out. I finally just bought a tote while I was in Hong Kong. I kept it close to my body, spent less time rummaging and it held everything I needed – and then some. I hope this helps.
Wish I have advice on bags, but I am also trying to figure that out! So exciting you’ll be heading to Paris. You’ll definitely look chic there with these pieces!
If you’re going to do a larger bag or a tote, I would recommend metal/chain straps and a zipper. I have however carried open tote bags around Europe and I have not been pick-pocketed; but I’m very careful to hold the bag tightly. Enjoy your travels!
