still winter, but not really.

The high was 81 degrees today.  81 degrees.  On February 15th.  You have got to be kidding me.  Can you even call that winter?  I don’t think you can.  I had to scrounge my 30 for 30 to find stuff that would work.  I still sweat a little.  My question is, when it is that warm, do winter rules for fashion even apply?  Also, this warm weather has got me already thinking about how the H I’m going to dress myself when it’s 114 degrees every day.  For 3 months in a row.  (If you think I’m exaggerating you’ve never been to Phoenix.)  How do you have any style at all when you get heat exhaustion walking from your air conditioned car to the air conditioned store?  I would love any ideas.  I get super sick of a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, so any summer time fashion hints on how to stay cool and look fabulous would be greatly appreciated.  I know, I know, it’s still winter, but not really in Arizona.

Here are the particular obstacles/challenges:
1.The ridiculous heat= light fabrics and minimal layers are a must.
2. My personal modesty commitment= I don’t wear anything shorter than knee length and nothing sleeveless or low cut.  (but why would I go low-cut?  I don’t have a chest.)
3. I’m short: so shorts, well, they make me look shorter=use with caution.

Advice, would be much loved. Merci beaucoup.

  3. I’ve travelled to a number of countries that require you to dress modestly despite the 100 degree heat. What I’ve learned: capris and short sleeved shirts, all in lightweight cotton. Also, skirts and dresses. Accessorise with jewelry, shoes, belts. Have fun!

I love this outfit!! The flower and plaid shirt are adorable touches. I’m sure it is hard to remian “fashionable” when the temps are THAT high…I love wearing skirt then for sure. Something light and flowly feels like the way to go :)

Lucky duck! I think it made it to 60 yesterday here in South Carolina, but it was windy :( It was like dangling spring in front of me and then taking it away!
I’m with you though on not knowing what to wear when it’s blazing hot (and humid here). Hopefully other people will help us out!

I live in Tucson, so I FEEL YOUR PAIN. Ugh, A maxi dress is my go to in the summer, all day every day.

  9. Linen, linen and more linen. I know it’s not the most “mom friendly” material, but during the really hot months here in TX it keeps me cool. 100% cotton anything is a good choice too.

  10. I think we have the opposite problem :) I have trouble looking cute in so many layers! I really admire you for your modesty. I think a lot of women out there tend to show too much. As for summer outfits light short sleeved summer dresses are great with a light cardi layered for the indoors. Also how about linen pants or capris – they are perfect for summer!

About your comment about not wearing anything low cut b/c you have “nothing” LOL – I’m in the same position but I actually think girls with smaller chests can get away with showing more in the chest area (not talking super low cut here) than larger chested ladies. It’s easier for us to still look modest :)

I’m definitely in the same boat for hot weather – I live in Hawaii and there are so many cute things you can’t wear unless you want to look like a sweaty mess all day. I’m selfishly looking forward to your hot weather posts for inspiration. Though I’m not petite and I’m 20 weeks pregnant, I try to adapt your ideas (colors, accessories, etc) to fit my style. Keep it up!

P.S. Maybe you could add how/what you do to your hair to (some of) your posts. Your straight brown hair (like mine) always looks so put together and stylish (not so much like mine)! Thanks!

You’ll have to compile all of the tips you get. Obviously, it doesn’t get too warm in Seattle but I, too, find it hard (especially being a stay at home Mom) to look cute and pulled together when it is hot. We used to live in Bakersfield, CA (pre kids) where it is around 100 every day for 3 months as well. At least then I worked so I just wore jeans, cute tops and platform sandals every day. Not so easy when you have little people to schlepp around!
