I wrote this post last year and it’s one of my most popular.  It was so much fun to write too because fall activities are my favorite, so  I thought I would re-share it again today.   Here are 15 magical things to do in the fall, I hope you enjoy!

Last weekend we went over to the Ballard Locks for part of the day.  It’s one of my favorite spots in Seattle to hang out.  There’s a really pretty botanical garden on the way in, which reminds me a little of central park, only much much smaller. But mostly I love watching the gates close and the water rise and fall to let boats pass between Lake Union and the Puget sound.  (Think mini panama canal.)  I don’t care how many times I see it, I will always marvel that human’s built something like that. (And 100 years ago, no less…)

Anyway, if you’re ever in Seattle you definitely want to put it on your list.  You can also cross the bridge and watch the salmon jump the fish ladder, which is also amazing.  What humans and nature can accomplish seriously amazes me.

We’ve had a touch of fall weather lately, which I’m not complaining about, and it gave me the excuse to pull out my new favorite sweater.  I’m kind of obsessed with it, and the fact that it doubles as a blanket. So cozy!  I love great neutral layers in the fall, they blend so well with the weather and my mood.  I just want enjoy all the crisp air and read all the good books and drink all the yummy cocoa there is.  Who’s with me?!

Speaking of which.  I just finished my book and I need a new book rec!  Read any good ones lately?

I’ve read, Boys in the Boat, and a bunch of Kate Morton Books in the last couple months. (loved all!)

Also, this is the second pair of Vince Camuto booties I’ve bought this year and it’s definitely a new favorite shoe brand.  These are so pretty and I love the subtle olive color.  I am all about olive this fall!  They run a little long and are almost sold out, but I found an almost identical pair (same brand and color here.)

Also, I had a ton of fun working on the hair tutorial last week, and thank you for all the great questions and comments!   That post came about after I had a lot of people asking me to do a hair curling tutorial, which got me thinking.  What do you want to see more of on this blog?  Anything and everything, leave your requests below and I’ll get to work on them!

Last Monday was our 13th wedding anniversary, so we skipped out on work and life responsibilities and Craig took me sailing for the day.  I’ve been obsessed with boats for as long as I can remember and I love being on the water.  Sailing Seattle is one of those amazing surreal experiences too because you’re  out there and the water is this gorgeous moody blue, and everywhere you look there’s sailboats and ferries and cargo ships and barges.   It doesn’t feel crowded, though.  And all surrounding the water, there’s the city skyline on one side, with the waterfront ferris wheel and the port, and then islands lined with pine trees and pretty coastal houses on the other side.  And there are trains running down the coastline all the time.  While we sailed past the city we saw one carrying huge 737 airplane fuselage pieces south.  Just an airplane, on a train, right in the middle of a city.  Seattle is so cool.  I’ll never get used to that.  We sailed all day, stopping for lunch at the marina downtown, and then ended at sunset on Shilshole bay.  Seriously, so gorgeous.

Even when it’s a nice, sunny warmish day, when you get out on the water, with the wind and you start moving pretty fast, it can actually get quite chilly.  Layers are a really good idea when you’re sailing.  Especially because the temperature can vary so much throughout the day.  It’s nice to have options.

I was trimming the jib most of the day while Craig ran the tiller (cause I stink at steering- my verdict, not his) which meant I did a lot of running from one side of the boat to the other, pulling lines and tightening wenches.  Sailing is work, so wearing something comfortable that you can also move easily in is important.  Boyfriend jeans are perfect for these situations, (which is why we stole them from the boys) and I added a cable knit sweater, a light jacket, my favorite new striped t-shirt, and of course, my trusty Chuck Taylor’s.

It was a perfect day.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a nice laaaaaaate start to day after being out till midnight at the Gasworks Park firework show last night.  Don’t you just love the fourth of July?  Best holiday ever…

One of my favorite things to do for a date night is to explore fun local spots to eat or get a treat.  Food is kind of my love language and I love it when I find a gem.  Last weekend, my husband and I decided to try out a new ice cream shop.  Shug’s Soda Fountain and Ice Cream shop is right off Pike place market in downtown Seattle and oh my goodness it is the cutest little ice cream shop ever.  It just opened this April, and it’s bright and cheerful, just like an ice cream shop should be.  I mean, it’s got a mint colored ceiling.  Let’s just say the design is perfect.

They sell old fashioned sodas (I got a pineapple soda, hello heaven!), ice cream, sundaes, milkshakes and other treats.   Their whipped cream is bomb.  If you’re in downtown Seattle this summer (and beyond) go in and grab a chocolate shake, and tell them Cori sent you.  Just kidding, they have no idea who I am… LOL.  But seriously, go grab an ice cream, the mint ceiling alone is worth the trip.

Also, my pretty Kate Spade dress is still on sale (along with all their other sale items, handbags, shoes, etc) for an extra 30% off, but it ends today so hurry, hurry!

Happy Tuesday everyone!
