Skirt: Asos. Sweater: Target. Necklace: J Crew (similar) Shoes: Enzo Angiolini. Bag: Ivanka Trump. (similar) Watch: Michael Kors. Pave Ring: TJMaxx. (similar.) Sunglasses: H&M (these are amazing.)

This skirt is the physical embodiment of my having completely overcome the insecurities of my earlier life.   I mean it’s a (faux) leather skirt, people.  Can you say, WI-LD? ;-)  I would never have had the guts to wear something like this a few years ago.   But now, I wear what I like and I feel just fine in it; I don’t even get self-conscious any more.  Is this the gift age brings you?  Well then, Happy Birthday to me… (on Monday.)

But seriously, I think one of the very best things I’ve learned in the last few years, especially through all the hard stuff, is how little it matters what other people think of you, and how much it matters what you think of yourself.

So here are my top 3 pieces of advice/practices for becoming more secure:

1. do the things you want to do, wear what you want to wear even if it scares you.  The more you practice pushing your fears, the less they scare you.

2. Be true to you.  All day, everyday.  It’s a lot easier to be sure when you’re being authentic.

3. Don’t give a rats behind about petty people or what they may or may not be saying/thinking about you.  Every time you feel hurt by some petty person or thing, IRL or online, repeat this to yourself:

“I don’t care what you think about me, I don’t think about you at all.” -Coco Chanel.

Happy Friday Everyone!   Go get ’em.

You are WEARING the heck out of that skirt, love your simple but sophisticated style. I agree with you that with age comes the attitude that petty stuff should not frazzle you. Thanks for sharing Cori

I agree about the age thing and not caring what others think about you. I have gotten bolder in my fashion choices in my 40s. Now do my kids agree if they are out with me? That’s another story. LOL! That skirt fits you perfectly and I love how you styled it in a lady-like way.

Great post Cori. I totally find myself worried about what other people think of me and I hate it!!!!!! I love that quote from Coco Chanel :). That skirt is gorgeous and i totally agree that i think comfort in your own skin comes from age and experience. There are outfits that I wear now that I also would never have worn a few years ago, but now I wear it with confidence. That’s the key, to be confident and own it. I bought a pair of leather leggings and I own it every time I wear it. Last year I wouldn’t even have dared to buy them, let alone where them out running errands.

    Happy New Year!!!!!

My mom always says I should start my own business because I hate having to worry about what others think. Clothes, makeup, looks…it all matters. Gotta keep with a culture and a value system that’s not necessarily yours…:/
