Dress: The Grand Central.  Blazer: H&M (similar.) Shoes: Enzo Angiolini.  Bag: Melie Bianco c/o.  Scarf: Loft. (old. similar.) Brooch: Loft.

I was actually kind of surprised by Pantone’s choice of Radiant Orchid as this year’s color of the year.  I feel like they were about 4 years late on this one; I swear this color was everywhere in 2010.  And man was it my color that year.  In any case, I don’t mind revisiting an old favorite, and was extra happy that I already had pieces built into my wardrobe in this fabulous hue.  Which just proves, yet again, that a great wardrobe piece works for you year after year.

I find myself most often unconsciously drifting towards ladylike looks, and since I design dresses and skirts for a living, I’d say that’s probably a good thing.  My favorite part of getting dressed, you know, when I’m being creative with it, is doing something surprising.  I love mixing textures and styles.  When I designed the grand central dress, I wanted a really ladylike feel.  Fitted, flattering, with a boat neck and half sleeves, but done in a fabric typically associated with a long days work.  I also love taking everyday things, like denim, for instance, and finding a way to make it interesting and new.  I’ve wanted a really great denim dress for myself for the longest time,  and when I found this awesome stretch railroad denim, so perfectly hearty, I knew it was meant to be.  This is where most of my designs come from.  I think to myself, “hm, I’d like to have a dress that looks like (fill in the blank), and then I just go ahead and make it.”  I’ve had a lot of fun lately glaming up this functional dress, it works as a great canvas for whatever mood I seem to be in.  Which is precisely what I was after. ;-)

What makes getting dressed fun to you?

Gorgeous flower! Getting dressed is fun for me when a piece is well made and fits me perfectly. If my clothes are well made it makes me feel well made!

I like dressing for my mood. If I’m feeling tough I wear a lot of black, and if I’m feeling girly I will wear a skirt or a pretty top and scarf :) I love that blazer paired with your dress! It’s so feminine!
