So I’m being featured in the summer issue of CupcakeMag.  You should really go check it out, because the whole issue is rather dreamy (I mean Jessica Alba is in it- insert heart eye emoticon) and I’m still pinching myself that they wanted to include me.  You can head on over there to read my full interview, but I thought I might share some of the pictures from our shoot in my old studio over here today.

I really loved my old studio.  It was in my home and when we first moved in, it was this really dark tan color, even the ceiling,  with a horrible venetian glazed wall, and a boob light.  (you know the ones I’m talking about)  The whole space was very dark and cave-like–not my favorite–but it had a maple floor and gorgeous gabled windows, and just so much potential.  I gave the whole thing a clean white wash, except for the back wall, which I painted a soft aqua called Valley Mist (from Home Depot).  A little tribute to my love for all things soft blue.  I literally could not believe the transformation.  I create best in light, airy spaces and with a fresh coat of white paint and a soft blue accent wall this studio was ideal.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before how much I love Ikea.  (I know, so does every other woman on the planet.) But seriously, I would go to Ikea just for fun.  Just to hang out, and look at stuff.  I love brands that think of the way you really live and what you’ll need and then create products that provide real solutions for those needs.  Everything in Ikea is so functional.  I love that.  Pretty, clean pieces that help you stay organized and uncluttered, that are made to be smudged my children and then wiped clean and are reasonably priced so you don’t have a heart attack when they (inevitably) get scratched by said children. The couches in my living room are from Ikea, and I love how I can strip the slipcovers off and throw them in the wash when they get dirty.

I also appreciate the way you can tailor their pieces to fit your needs.  My studio table is one of my favorites with it’s mix-and match legs and top, and the kitchen cart (that I now use as a studio cart,) is the perfect open air catch all for everything that I need to access quickly, but that I don’t want strewn all over my flat spaces.

And I must give a quick shout out to Mr. Craig because the bulk of the personality in my studio comes from the little industrial touches, which he so willingly helped me build. (and by helped, I mean he built them entirely by himself.)  My clothing racks and steam station are my favorite things in the studio.

I’ve included sources for just about everything I could remember, or think of below.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Awesome! Beautiful studio! And I love love love what you said in the article…”Be flexible. The plan you start with will change, you’ll realize you’re doing everything wrong, and you’ll have to adjust. Having to adjust doesn’t mean you’re a failure.” That just sums up my life for the last year and it puts perfectly into words what I’ve been looking for, for my own peace of mind, if that makes sense. Thanks!
