Um, Thanksgiving is next week.  How on earth is this year going by so fast?

I like to cook and bake as much as the next girl, but truth be told, when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner, my favorite part of the prep is setting the table.  Typically I like our Thanksgiving table setting to have lots of texture and usually that means using more earthy colors and fabrics (think burlap) but this year, I spotted this set of gold chargers on sale at World Market, and that got my brain ticking in a different direction.

I paired the gold chargers with these black and white striped napkins and table runner  with off-white plates to lighten the whole thing up; I love the way it turned out.  I usually shy away from gold because I feel like it’s really easy for it to get gaudy, but pairing it with black and white stripes in a nice matte cotton really helped to ground it.

I wanted gold stemmed wine glasses (minus the wine- we don’t drink) for the table, which I didn’t have.  What I do have are tons (think 40) green stemmed glasses, hand-me-down from my sweet momma.  So I pulled out a table settings worth from my arsenal and used a metallic gold krylon to paint the bottoms.  Did you know you can spray paint just about anything?  Even glass.  They turned out even better than I thought they would.  I used the same paint to spray the pumpkins on the table as well.  It was so much fun I’m now walking around my house looking for things I can spray paint gold.  (Not really, but kind of.)

My husband built me this pretty farmhouse table a few years ago, and I swear it gets better with time.  It’s probably my favorite piece of furniture in our whole house.  It’s where we gather and eat and make memories.  You can’t hurt the thing it’s so sturdy (trust me on that one) and I just think farmhouse tables are so classic.  If you love farmhouse tables but you’re not up to building one, Pottery Barn and World Market both have great options (and they’re both on sale right now).

So how are you setting your Thanksgiving table?

I like the idea of two benches. I’ve been considering replacing my chairs, but two benches might be the way to go.

oh my goodness, do it! I wasn’t sure if I would love getting rid of our chairs and replacing them with benches but I have never regretted it. They are totally the way to go. You have extra seating when you need it, they clean up easy are perfect for kids and I love the statement that they make.

Do you think the spary paint will last on the glass stems? I’ve been wanting to do the same thing, just curious about scratches.

I’m not sure. I always hand wash my stemware so I figured that would keep the paint from scratching/peeling, but I haven’t tried yet… I’ll keep you posted on how they hold up!

What a gorgeous color palette! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Also, surprised I am the first/only to ask… that plaid stag head in the background? It’s absolutely adorable. Where might a lady find one?
