Coat/flannel shirt/sweater/jeans: J.Crew Factory c/o

I’m a girl that lives for layers and this is my time of year for piling them on.  Basically, pass me all the plaid shirts, sweaters, scarves, boots, jackets…  In fact, when we found out we were moving to Seattle from Arizona, the very first thing my older sister Tashi said to me was, “you are going to love it there, it’s layer weather all the time!”

I know right?!?  Sign me up, Seattle.

During the holidays, my go-to layers are cozy sweaters and soft plaid flannels.  They always look festive, and they work so well while you’re bustling around, Christmas shopping, finding a tree, hanging wreaths, and looking at lights.  Add a chic wool coat while you’re outside, or peel them off as needed once you’re inside nestled by the fire with a book and a cup of cocoa…

I’ve always loved a good “button-up underneath the sweater” look, but lately I’ve been layering my plaid flannels under my favorite turtlenecks as well, and I love the way it throws in a little different dynamic to a classic layering style.

My go-to for layering basics is J.Crew Factory.  I’ve been a J.Crew sweater junkie for years, but I love their shirts the most because the fit is so great.  Finding a good fit at my size is tricky (especially since I’m super short, but also have a wide rib-cage.)  J.Crew Factory button-ups are never boxy, or too big, the length is always on point, and they layer perfectly under so many things without feeling bulky, but look great on their own as well. (Also, they now carry a ton of styles in petites!–like this coat— which is so great for shorties like me.)

This year I’m all about flannel, and I’ve been stocking up on a few new styles with lots of plans for dressing them up and down during the festive season.  Think: sequins, stripes, wool pencil skirts and pretty sweaters…  J.Crew Factory has some really great promotions going on right now (hello 50% off everything!) and today all their flannel shirts (for men and women) are marked down to $29.95.   Including this flannel pop-over I’m wearing.  I’m really loving this red buffalo check one, and this navy and white plaid one.

p.s.

J.Crew Factory also has a really great holiday gift guide right now in case you’re stuck on what to get someone and it’s color-coded.  Which, I feel merits mentioning because, awesome.

I got that cocoon style coat at JCF last year. Love it! It fits my narrow shoulders well and allows for layering over heavy sweaters without looking odd or constricting. I hope they sell that style forever. Love the outfit, too!

I love, love, LOVE this outfit!!! I MUST hit J Crew this weekend! I have the same problem you have, I’m short with a large ribcage. Tommy Hilfiger shirts are awesome, I’ve never tried J Crew….thanks for the recommendation! And happy thanksgiving!
