This month we are focusing on ideas for making January awesome instead of what it usually is, the most depressing month of the year…

Today I turn 33.

Having my birthday at the beginning of the new year always makes me very introspective about the last year of my life and year on the calendar.

The older I get the more I discover about myself.  I think that’s why I’ve liked being in my 30’s so much.  I know myself so much better than I did in my 20’s.  I like myself better too.

I used to think that I was a pretty naturally happy person, but that was also when life was pretty sunny all the time.  It’s easy to be happy when things are going your way, when you haven’t been touched by sadness.  But the last few years were sad ones, and I learned a lot about how hard I have to work to be positive and happy when hard things are happening all around/to me.

Each year on my birthday, I kind of think about what I want my year to be like, what the theme of this annual should be.

This year I want to simply create my own sunshine no matter what life throws at me.  To look at it all and say, “Come what may and love it.”

Laugh more, worry less.  Love harder, and be proactive.

There’s the January idea for us today, “come what may and love it.”

A great talk about how to do that here.

“Every life has peaks and shadows and times when it seems that the birds don’t sing and bells don’t ring. Yet in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result…”

-Joseph B. Wirthlin

Come what may and love it.
