wrap it up: a Mother’s day gift guide.

wrapping gifts

Mother’s day is just a couple weeks away, so today I’ve gathered up some really pretty things in a gift guide, to give you some ideas for mom.  But before we talk about the actual gifts, let’s talk gift wrap.

I love to wrap gifts. I inherited the love from my older sister, who’s basically an artist when it comes to wrapping gifts and she’s pretty much inspired everything I’ve learned about gift wrapping.

Great gift wrapping, like decorating or even getting dressed is all about playing with different textures, prints and doing something surprising.  I feel like gift wrapping is half the fun of a gift.  A pretty package all bundled up just increases anticipation and makes the event that much more special/fun.  When I have the time to wrap something properly it always makes me so much more excited to give the gift.

This year, for mother’s day, I’ll all about using papers that aren’t uber feminine.  I feel like during mother’s day you get a lot of cheesy florals, but I’m a stripes girl, and adding fun pom ribbon and fresh peony-tulips to the package makes the whole thing feel fresh and feminine.  I added these wooden letters for just a little extra touch.  I found them at Target and they’re only a dollar and add such a fun pop of texture and personality.  I think I’m going to start putting wooden letters on all my gifts from now on…

Now about what goes inside… I don’t know about you, but shopping for mother’s day gifts is so hard for me.  I feel like I come up blank every year.  What I’ve started doing when I think about gift buying for anyone, is thinking about what I want the person I’m gifting to feel and experience from my gift.  When it comes to our moms who sacrifice so much, I want them both to feel loved and remembered, but also pampered and cherished.  I often gravitate towards gifts that will help them to slow down, relax and take time for themselves.

My mom is super selfless and terrible at doing things for herself, so I love to give her gifts focused around self-care.  My mom’s always been good about her skin, (not too much sun and all that) so a luxurious face wash, or great moisturizer are great ideas for her.

And because most women love jewelry, a pretty pair of earrings or a great necklace are great options for mom as well.  Both of our mom’s are pretty conservative when it comes to jewelry, so I love Kendra Scott’s new line for them because the pieces are gorgeous but understated and the quality is tops.

Below I’ve curated a few more pretty pieces no matter what your budget is.  This teapot is a serious favorite, and I’m also loving some of these pretty and totally gift appropriate books.  And I want that pair of polka dot pajamas for myself. (hint, hint Mr…)
