trend alert: block heel sandals.

One of the questions I get asked most often is how I wear heels with kids. While I adore a beautiful stiletto pump, now that I have a toddler again, I usually stick to my trusty flats during the week and reserve those fancier shoes for Sundays and nights out with my husband or girlfriends. I love it though when I find a great heel style, like a wedge or a block heel, that works everyday, even when I’m just being mom. I just love the way wearing heels makes me feel, the way it makes me stand a little straighter and taller, the way it gives me just a little extra push of confidence. And let’s face it, when you’re 4’11” you need all the extra height you can get.

Block heel sandals are a huge trend this year, and I am so glad. I love the classic line of them, the chunky and also more stable heel, the way it often contrasts with the strappy top of the shoe. They have an almost Spanish inspired feel and when I wear them it makes me want to go salsa dancing or something. Not that I actually know how to salsa, but that’s beside the point. At least I know they’re stable enough I won’t break my ankle. Glad I got that taken care of…

Anyway, block heel sandals are really a perfect everyday summer shoe. I’m loving the chunky slip-on mules styles, perfect for a casual running around town look, or paired with a pretty shirtdress. And of course the strappy sandals are a favorite. I love how sassy they look, and how they also strap securely to my foot making them so comfortable and easy to wear all day long, even when I’m running errands and chasing Ava. I love the way they upgrade a simple boyfriend jean and t-shirt outfit, and make it look sassy and intentional. And you know I’ll never complain about an extra 2-3 inches of height.

When it comes to shoe shopping (or jean, or bag shopping) I always turn to Nordstrom first. With thousands of gorgeous options in lots of price ranges, I can almost always find exactly what I’m looking for, and I really appreciate that Nordstrom almost always carries smaller sizes; really great for someone like me who wears a 5-5.5. There’s nothing I hate more than falling in love with a pair of shoes, only to realize that the smallest they come in is a size 6.

I also love the customer service and attention to detail I get when I shop at Nordstrom. How shipping is ALWAYS free and my order gets to me quick. How easy it is to return or exchange an item that doesn’t work. It takes all the stress out of online shopping. And there’s just something so convenient about shopping at a store that has everything, and everything is good.
