Last weekend we went over to the Ballard Locks for part of the day.  It’s one of my favorite spots in Seattle to hang out.  There’s a really pretty botanical garden on the way in, which reminds me a little of central park, only much much smaller. But mostly I love watching the gates close and the water rise and fall to let boats pass between Lake Union and the Puget sound.  (Think mini panama canal.)  I don’t care how many times I see it, I will always marvel that human’s built something like that. (And 100 years ago, no less…)

Anyway, if you’re ever in Seattle you definitely want to put it on your list.  You can also cross the bridge and watch the salmon jump the fish ladder, which is also amazing.  What humans and nature can accomplish seriously amazes me.

We’ve had a touch of fall weather lately, which I’m not complaining about, and it gave me the excuse to pull out my new favorite sweater.  I’m kind of obsessed with it, and the fact that it doubles as a blanket. So cozy!  I love great neutral layers in the fall, they blend so well with the weather and my mood.  I just want enjoy all the crisp air and read all the good books and drink all the yummy cocoa there is.  Who’s with me?!

Speaking of which.  I just finished my book and I need a new book rec!  Read any good ones lately?

I’ve read, Boys in the Boat, and a bunch of Kate Morton Books in the last couple months. (loved all!)

Also, this is the second pair of Vince Camuto booties I’ve bought this year and it’s definitely a new favorite shoe brand.  These are so pretty and I love the subtle olive color.  I am all about olive this fall!  They run a little long and are almost sold out, but I found an almost identical pair (same brand and color here.)

Also, I had a ton of fun working on the hair tutorial last week, and thank you for all the great questions and comments!   That post came about after I had a lot of people asking me to do a hair curling tutorial, which got me thinking.  What do you want to see more of on this blog?  Anything and everything, leave your requests below and I’ll get to work on them!

xo, Cori

I just really love the beauty tips and tutorials. Maybe an update on your shop (online and physical) and the Kickstarter for your children’s game! How do you come up with your designs? A behind-the-scenes on a photoshoot? I could go on all day! :-D

Ooh – also…..could you do anything on dressing for different body types. I love your style, but am a completely different build (tall, pear shape) and colouring (dark hair, very pale skin ‘winter’ type) to you. Would be great to hear your thoughts on changes that can be made to suit different people? xxx

Wow, what a great time of year for the peep toe booties! Don’t you just love a long cardigan that feels so cozy?! I am a big fan of loose, feminine tanks under a good ole cardigan.

I think you might enjoy any of the books by Daisy Goodwin. They remind me strongly of Jane Austen, but are perhaps more ‘readable’ between childcare and chores. I’m currently reading The Fortune Hunter, and have read The American Heiress more than once. Her novels are great for the Downton-deprived among us. I just wish we could still wear evening gowns and skirted riding habits…Maybe it’s time for some history-inspired fashion posts?
