Spring is always one of my favorite seasons, because it’s all about new life and fresh starts. And this year, it’s even more special since the season also coincides with a major change and a fresh start for our family. It feels very symbolic.
When I think about how much our life has changed in the last couple months since moving from Seattle to the New England countryside, I can’t believe how normal I actually feel. I keep thinking that I should feel homesick and disoriented. But the truth is, I’ve really stepped forward, leaned in to our new life and that has made all the difference.
One of the things that has changed since we moved, is the way I get dressed everyday. Living in a 230 year old New England Farmhouse is quite a bit different than living in a typical Seattle neighborhood, and how I get dressed for what my days entail on our farm is different too. You could say that my momiform has evolved a bit. There’s a lot more physical work and upkeep needed with a house like this, and we’ve all been embracing it. Everything gets a little dirtier when you live in the country, so there’s more cleaning. We pulled down the old paneling in our family room last week and now we’re reframing the wall and putting new insulation in. We’ve also started clearing brush on our pasture now that the snow is pretty much gone, and our barn needs a few repairs before we move the chicks in there and get a horse later this summer. It’s sounds crazy, but I’ve been waiting my whole life to do work like this, and I am loving every minute of it. It also means I’m getting a lot of use out of my casual clothes, especially my jeans and sneakers.
Sneakers are a huge trend this spring and this pair of canvas slip-ons from Famous Footwear has been such a great addition to my closet. I love them because the patches and distressing make them a fun and fresh take on a classic sneaker style. They are perfect to throw on with distressed crops and a t-shirt or a cute shirtdress. Really there’s so much you can do with a pair of sneakers. And I love that I can pull them on really quick and feel cute and put together even if I’m just helping the kids take the baby chicks out, or working on our family room remodel with Craig.
Feeling confident in my clothes is important to me no matter what I’m doing, and I’m learning that just because you’re a mom, doing mom things and you need to wear mom-task appropriate shoes, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Especially now that there are so many great on-trend casual options out there. I’m glad Famous Footwear is there to help.
So, tell me, how are you stepping forward into the new season?
