i made this skirt with my own two hands.

Blouse: Ann Taylor Loft, Cardigan: Downeast Basics, Skirt: Made by me baby! (fabric from JoAnn’s home decor section), Brooch: Also made by me, Shoes: Target, Earrings: gift from my momma, Watch: Walmart
No, you didn’t read me wrong.  See those two stubby fingered hands?  They made this skirt.  And since they can’t speak for themselves I’m going to go ahead and pat them on the back… of the hand.  Did you notice the matching brooch?  My little hands made that as well. Oh how I love a good large brooch.  My absolute favorite and versatile set of accessories is my ever expanding brooch collection.  I think people are beginning to notice this obsession of mine because my friend got me two fabulously beautiful brooches for my birthday.  But back to the skirt.  I’ve said on here a few times that I am uncommonly small.  Unfortunately I also have slightly picky tastes, and even more picky feeling about fit.  I hate wearing something that looks to big.  And almost everything is always too big.  Dilemma.  Seriously the best advice I could give a petite girl, or really any girl for that matter (because we all have some body issue) who wants a perfect fit is learn how to sew.  I bought a simple pattern, and then pinned and altered it until the skirt had the architecture I was looking for and the fabric hugged every curve just so.  Pair that with a funky home decor/curtainy fabric and I’ve got a totally distinct, unique, fits-like-a-dream skirt that I am IN. LOVE. WITH.

So today is a two for the price of one.  Not only do you get to feast your pretties on my handmade skirt, you get to check out me and the kids all decked out in our Sunday best.  Because seriously who doesn’t stop by a pretty little landscaped area to take pictures after church?  The husband is behind the camera, and politely declined (had a death grip on the camera) being photographed in his suit and tie.  But take it from me, he looked quite sexy.  Oh don’t blush, we have three kids… it’s no secret that I think he’s hot.

How it worked:  Church is always a bit of an issue, because my Sunday best usually requires constant retucking.  Not good when you’re trying to negotiate three wigglers through 3 hours of church.  This one actually works pretty well though.  The heels, while tall, fit like a glove and love to stay on my feet which means, it’s easier to shimmy and shake in them (in a reverent way of course).  The button up is long enough that it stays tucked without any fuss, the cardigan hangs where it should, and like I said before, the skirt fits perfectly comfortably, and is sturdy enough to withstand quite a bit.  The hair was effortless and quick, excellent for the Sunday rush.

What Miss Hannah’s wearing:  Dress: Old Navy, Tee: Target, Tights: Target, Boots: Kenneth Cole (a very generous gift from Ubber stylish Auntie Tashi- via Zappos?), Hair Accessory: Made, once again by me.

I know she’s gorgeous.  And she’s just as angelic as she looks.

What Mr. Carter is wearing: Button  up: Children’s Place (also a gift from Aunt Tashi) Sweater: ditto to the last, Tie: Kohls (Ralph Lauren), Pants: Chaps(from Kohls), Shoes: Payless?

What Mr. Ethan is wearing: Shirt and Sweater: Children’s Place (once again from Aunt Tashi- I have a super generous sister who also loves to shop… lucky me) Pants: Old Navy, Shoes: Thrifted
