I almost gave them away.

Pants: Anthro. Shirt, Brooch:The Loft. Shoes: Target.  Belt: Ross.

I almost got rid of these pants like 30 different times.  When I first brought them home from Anthropologie not only were they about a foot too long, they were also too big.  At first I thought I could pull off the baggy trouser look, but even after I hemmed them, no matter how much I tried they just looked, well stupid.  To the back of the closet they went until each routine purge, where I’d pull them out, consider getting rid of them, then think about how I got them for only $20 dollars at Anthro and that’s basically a miracle.  You don’t just throw out a miracle.  So back on the hanger and back in the closet they’d go until I figured out what to do with them.  Well, a month ago I was purging and I ran across these pants again.  Only this time it hit me.  If I altered them into fitted cropped trousers, they might just be fabulous.  And really, what did I have to lose?  It’s not like I was wearing them.  It took me a month to get around to it, but the other day after a little trimming and stitching I got these.  And I finally love these pants.  They are unbelievably cool and comfortable.  It’s basically like wearing pajama’s but much less lame.  Perfect for Arizona summers.  And let’s face it’s basically summer here already.

Moral of the story: don’t be afraid to mess with your clothes.  If you have something that you never wear cause it’s “just not right,” play around with it before you ditch it.  You might be able to make something fabulous.

And speaking of sewing, I have something ridiculously fabulous cooking for our Easter duds.  We’re talking a whole family’s worth of fabulous handstiched frocks.  Make sure you stop my this weekend and have a look.

Peace out loves.

You look fantastic in those! I find it so hard to pull of cropped pants but this is inspiring — maybe I just need to mess with the length and fitted-ness to get it right.

You said they were baggy at first? Which seams did you have to take in to make it work? All of them? :)

Evelynne- I took a bit from the side seems, but the bulk came off of the inside and crotch. I like taking it in from both sides (as long as the style allows it) because I think it looks more natural. Then I just trimmed off the extra fabric at all the new seems and pressed them down so there wasn’t any puckering. Hope this helps!
