guest post: my lil’ sista.

Guys, I’ve got an abundance of beautiful sisters.  No joke. And since I love you guys so much I’m going to share my little sister Meg with you for the day.
Isn’t she gorgeous.
She’s the cutest, sweetest little new mommy, you’ve  ever met, and she’s thrifty and creative too.
Plus she sings like whoa.
(you can hear her sing here.)
Give my sissy some love.
Hello fellow bloggers. This is Meghan Young from Forever Young. First off I want to say thank you to Cori(who happens to be my wonderful sister)for allowing me to post on her blog while she is out.  I am really excited to be here and share a little bit of what I like to do.
If you have had the chance to pop by my blog you would know that I like to thrift, I like to build, I like to sew, and I like to take old things with character and breathe new life into them.  Today I will be sharing one such project and how easy remaking can be.  However, I must warn you, this will not be a tutorial, I have yet to adopt the skill to compile a step by step guide, but I will share the general idea of what my process is.

Okay, let’s get started… One of the first things that I look for in thrifted clothing is condition of the material.  Has it been gently used or harshly worn, is the material comfortable, is the pattern bold or timeless?  If it fits the bill on all counts I move on to the big question.   What can I do with it?  I don’t always know what I will do with a piece when I start working on it, but I usually have a general direction in mind.  Most importantly I allow flexibility in the remake.  If something doesn’t quite work out, no biggy, I exhaust my efforts in a different direction.  This usually means that I have to leave extra room for vacillating. (So you can see why a tutorial would be very difficult to write and even more difficult for the reader to understand.)  When I found this piece the material was very comfortable and in great condition. The pattern on the fabric was a pretty coral/pink and white floral.  I knew I wanted to wear it, however, it was and XXL long sleeved shirt that was four sizes too big for me.  Not to mention, it’s the middle of summer, what was I doing looking at long sleeves??? This did not deter me; I was determined to wear that comfy cotton poly pattern.  I snatched it up, and allowed the creative wheels in my head to start turning.

After much dithering, this is what I came up with.  I ixnayed the sleeves, turning this once long sleeved number into a summer appropriate item. I then sized down the entire shirt to a comfy fitted style, similar to the cut of a “Wonder T.”  I really wanted to have a finished look with this T so I lined the sleeves with a half inch edge. Finally the last touch, because I love a little frill, I added a fun rosette embellishment on the top side of the shirt using the discarded material from the long sleeves. Voilà!!! Hope you enjoyJ

This ones for the road;)

Adorable! I love the shirt. I don’t know why, but I don’t often see embellished patterned shirts, but I really like it! Also, I love your shoes. Peep toe flat espadrilles?! Swoon.

This is totally off subject, but has anyone ever told you that you look like Lara Logan? It is uncanny to me!
