Top:Made by me. Jeans: Gap (hemmed by me) Jacket: The Loft. Belt, Shoes: Thrifted.
This top was a labor of love.
I labored and I love it.
But honestly it’s hard not to love a silky top.
Especially when that top is navy, and had horizontal stripes.
I really wanted to cut this top on the bias, because it makes things drape incredibly, but it would have messed with the stripes. And I just couldn’t get myself there.
These are the hard decisions in life.
I’m considering buying this fabric all over again just so I can cut it out on the bias and see how fabulous the stripes look diagonal.
And speaking of cutting…
Yesterday, my middle child came downstairs after he was supposed to be “brushing his teeth,” walks right up to me and says:
“Mom, you can put me in time out.”
Whenever Carter announces that I should put him in time out, I know he’s done something really bad. The kid might be a stink, but he never tries to hide it.
But the way he said it, and the sad little frown on his face, made my heart swell with love for him.
“What did you do?” I asked quietly.
He dropped his head. “You can spank me too.”
“Carter,” I replied, “I’m not going to spank you, just tell me what you did.”
Then his lip quivered just a little bit, “I cut my hair.”
That’s when I notice the little clump of hair front and center on his head has been cut short.
He looked so sad and humiliated, my little independent 5-year-old that I could even try to be mad.
After a short discussion about not cutting our own hair, and not sneaking into mom’s sewing room and hijacking her sewing scissors to do so, I took him into the bathroom and tried to blend in it to the rest of the hair as much as I could.
At that moment, I was so glad to be a mom.
I look down at my babies, those rare little blessings dancing around in my life and I know that nobody could love them like I do.
your blog is so fun to read, i just barely found your blog through pinterest and i love it! your stories about your kids are adorable, and i love seeing all your cute outfits!!
That is a nice story and I admire your patience. Unlike me, my little one just screams the moment he wakes up and drives me nuts… I try to be patience but… when someone does that first thing in the morning I just want to run away. I know… I am a bad mom. :-(
Sometimes you take a perfectly safe topic like a lace shirt and leave me with slightly more moist eyes by the end because you transitioned to a super sweet topic somewhere in the middle!
What a sweet story. I only have one baby but constantly stand in awe of God’s grace and mercy. How amazing it is that he trusts us to love and care for such precious angels! That poem at the end just spoke Volumes to me… thank you!
I just love that shirt, I wish I had your skill in the sewing department!! as for the little story about your little one, how sweet, even if he chopped his hair all up! jess http://www.jesscauseblog.blogspot.com
awww! i think every kid does this at least once… poor thing, i think he punished himself enough! and i love his name…. carter has always been one of my faves.
Love the neckline you made on that top! My oldest cut her brother’s hair and did not confess. I found the curl in the trash can because at 3yo, she wasn’t quite slick enough to hide the evidence better!
First, I can’t believe you made that top! It looks great! Second, your little guy seems so cute. What a sweet little story and good for him for telling the truth!
Also, as you probably know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I would really appreciate you and anyone else to hop on over to my blog and check out my cause to support research and awareness! Thanks so much!
LOVE that top! You look adorable and your sweet little guy reminds me of my Mason {middle child}. They are hilarious/crazy and just perfect for our families!
Great job on the shirt girlie! It looks fabulous on you. Poor Carter- at least he’s going to be an honest abe! I don’t blame you, I couldn’t have been mad at him either.

Absolutely love this. I love reading other mommy’s stories. It’s it amazing what the Lord has given us? There isn’t a greater blessing!
