Shirt: American Eagle. Pants: Old Navy. Boots: Target. Scarf:?? |
I’m usually not a huge fan of animal print anything, which is why this scarf sat in my closet for probably 3 years without ever once being worn. But I guess cheetah spots are supposed to be sort of classy now, aren’t they? (you know like as a subtle accessory, not in the hooker kind of way.)
And now that I wrote hooker, let’s just move on shall we?
Mr. had to work until 10pm on Friday night, so I spent the evening dropping Hannah off at a birthday party and then driving out to Issaquah so I could score a fantastic Pottery Barn coffee table off of Craigslist.
It is so beautiful.
Dark espresso stain, subtle distressing, planked top with end caps, and all in fabulous shape…
be still my little furniture loving heart.
For some ridiculous reason, all the best used furniture pops up on days when Mr. has to work late, and if you know how bargain shopping (for anything) works, you know that you’ve got to strike while the iron is hot, or it will be gone.
So even though I was on my own with both boys in tow, I bought that baby, loaded it into my Pilot, drove it home and single-handedly moved it to it’s new spot smack dab in the middle of my living room.
I’ve always been independent, but getting married made me a little wimpy. It’s just so easy to let the man lift everything heavy, hang the shelves, fix the leaky sink, etc etc. Especially when you’re married to a guy like Mr. who’s pretty much super man and can lift/ fix/build/and basically do anything. Every once in a while, though, I like to make myself do something hard. Especially something physically hard. Something that I shouldn’t be able to do. Like move a 5 1/2 foot solid wood coffee table out of the car, across the driveway, up the front steps, into the house, across the entryway, and into the living room all by myself, just to prove (to myself) that I still can.
I’m sure my neighbor thought I was nuts when she drove by and saw me struggling to get that baby across the driveway. I tried to give her a casual little “hey there neighbor” wave when she passed, but it’s hard to do so when you’re holding a table that’s twice your size.
When I got it inside, though, I took a step back, sat down on my sofa to stare at my beautiful coffee table and heard something whisper in my head:
“I can do hard things.”
That errant little thought is empowering.
It’s gotten me through a lot.
And it’s true.
I can do hard things.
And so can you…
Very cute outfit I love you sense of style =)
Those boots are fantastic! I don’t think that leopard print in small doses is a bad thing… :)
And you should post table pics!
Love the outfit! And I need to work on doing more hard things even though my husband does all of them as well! Haha.
I like this post. There are fewer greater feelings in the world than that of empowerment. Now you have me inspired to go on a Craigslist hunt!

Love the Boots! I totally agree with you on how the man takes over fixing and lifting ;).
i do all the heavy lifting around here since my husband became disabled. it sucks. but really…that’s a good way to look at it. i can definitely do hard things! love the outfit btw…and making target boots look so fabulous is hard to do..and that…im still working on..
Good for you – I am the SAME way! LOVE the leopard scarf (my fave animal print). Would love to see a pic of the table!
I love leopard print {but not in the hooker way}! Congratulations on your great find!
love the boots! And you should post some pics of this fabulous coffee table you got!
You did the animal print very classy and nice. I like the way it looks on you! Animal prints are very “in” now, but I haven’t been brave enough to own anything (yet).
Go you! Woman power! : ) Love the outfit and leopard print is totally in and not hooker looking on the scarf!
