peachy-keen.

Sweater/Necklace: The Loft.  Shirt: H&M Pants: Old Navy.  Shoes: Madden Girl via DSW.

This sweater and these shoes had fallen into the back recesses of my closet, forgotten for probably a year until I happened upon them yesterday and realized just how fabulous they both are.

I think it’s probably a good idea to go digging through your own closet every now and again and try to find things, fabulous things, that you might have otherwise completely forgotten.

There’s something about that human impulse, that constant craving for something new that makes us forget what we already have.

For example, yesterday afternoon, was not my day, if you know what I mean.  I took all three littles shopping, and they were not cooperating.  The pinnacle of this came when they knocked over two large boxes containing shelving which made a sound so loud that I wouldn’t be surprised if someone heard it across the street.

I couldn’t find anything I was looking for, and with Christmas is just a few days away, I don’t have any room for error. Then one of the littles climbed onto the cart and almost tipped it over.  Which I responded to by immediately giving them the stink-eye.  Which I then felt horrible about for the rest of the afternoon.

Not to mention. the two male littles have taken to wrestling every single time I walk out of the room.  And yesterday, this resulted in the youngest little smacking into the side of the sofa and ending up with a large welt on the side of his face.  So now it looks like I’m beating my children, fabulous.  I got all the self-righteous looks from fellow shoppers to prove it.

Yes they are all my children, and yes they don’t always behave.

And when I got home (without any of the stuff I went out for, mind you) my sewing room was still a humongous mess.  No little elf friend came and cleaned it up while I was away.  Once again proving that children’s fairy tales set you up for a lifetime of adult disappointment.  Just kidding.

Sort of.

But then.

Mr. had already put a pot on to boil pasta, and then we sat in my sewing room and figured out a system that would work.  And later in the evening we wrapped presents together and watched old Friends clips on Youtube, and the second little came down and said he couldn’t sleep, so Mr. had a wrapping paper roll sword fight with him instead.  And there is nothing like watching Mr. play with the littles.

And then later, I went up and organized my entire sewing room, and it wasn’t nearly as hard, and didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would.

Then I came down stairs and Mr. had fallen asleep on the couch waiting for me.

So I laid down on the smooth hardwood floor in front of the fireplace with a pillow and blanket and woke up hours later with the most deliciously toasty back ever.

And then later, after I snugged up on the couch, the youngest little came stumbling down the stairs and nestled his squishy little body right up to me  without missing a beat, and we both fell back asleep to the light of the Christmas tree, his little pudgy hand resting on his cheek.

And Mr. woke me up by saying that me and the little were so cute.

And I went to the gym and got to work out for a whole hour and a half. Which was fabulous.

And I’m sitting in front of the fire again; my feet are so toasty.

Life is peachy-keen.

  5. I have three kids too, but the youngest is 4 months. I know exactly what you mean about shopping with the kids…..exhausting!!!! The baby of course is the easiest, it’s the 5 and 3 year old that decide to run around the store and wrestle with each other. Being a teacher I expect them to behave, and when they dont I to, give them the stink eye. You are right though it’s the moments at home that are the best!!!
Thanks for sharing your crazy day! I think sometimes moms try to hold it all together and we put pressure on ourselves to have perfectly behaved children
It’s nice to share the ups and downs of motherhood!

  8. This is the coolest, coziest Christmas story. I totally relate! My kids don’t always behave and getting help from the Mr.s of the world is absolutely priceless. Forget what you need to get or get done, remember what you have (gorgeous sweaters, adorable kids, great hubbies and toasty feet) to be grateful for. Now that’s the Christmas spirit!

    Merry Christmas Cori!
