Trousers: ?? I bought them FOREVER ago. Chiffon Blouse: Jessica Simpson via Ross. Tie: Part of my LBD by Nine West. Bomber: Ross. Oxford Shoes: Payless. Bracelet: Gift. |
This outfit totally made me feel like I belonged in Old Hollywood. You know, like around the 1930’s-ish. I think it had something to do with the creamy chiffon blouse and tie, and also the bomber jacket, the trousers, and the oxford shoes. So yeah, basically the whole outfit. It made me feel very old Hollywood. Plus, it was ridiculously comfortable and manageable. Anyone who tells you that you can’t be a mom and dress in trousers at the same time is lying to you. Lying, I say.

Speaking of being a mom, I made homemade blueberry and chocolate chip muffins on Monday night. (two different kinds of muffins, that is: blueberry & chocolate chip) They were from scratch. Before you go getting all impressed and stuff let me just say that they weren’t good. Almost terrible in fact. I don’t know what happened, but they were barely cooked on top, black on bottom and so dense they could have broken a window. I could see Mr. and the littles choking them down, smiling and trying to act like they tasted good (the little darlings) but really those babies were na-sty.
And they definitely didn’t do anything for my uber-yummy, fluffy, moist, chocolate chip muffins craving.
(Hungry yet? Me too.)
So last night, after an epic night on the sledding hill, which was followed by the littles promptly begging for hot cocoa as soon as we got in the car to come home (I’ve corrupted my children) I decided to make some more muffins to go with.
Because you know, if you give a little some hot cocoa…
Only this time I did what any smart self-respecting mother would do. I walked over to the pantry and pulled out the box of Betty Crocker chocolate chip muffin mix.
And holy muffins they were goooooood.
I’m usually all about baking from scratch. Pancakes, cookies, lasagna, you name it.
But I think from now on, I’m a “from the box muffins” kind of mom…
I may never be deemed a domestic goddess…
But, I’m cool with that.
Sometimes, boxed muffins are just better.

Ha. Yes. I agree. Nothing wrong with using a box! Now if only I would start wearing trousers while using that muffin mix- then I’d be set! Your blog always makes me smile :)
Yeeeahh…I just did a blog post today about my baking prowess so I totally feel you. Cake pops, in my case. They tasted delicious but were uglier than sin.
Mmm, muffins sound good :)
ohh such a cute outfit!

You know, it just depends on what it is… mostly, I’m die hard from scratch. But duncan hines blueberry muffins with streusel topping? jiffy corn bread? sometimes you just have to go boxed. And that’s okay!
gorgeous as always and I have to share the BEST homemade muffin recipe and I promise it’s easy! from a blog I love, not my own http://www.simpleorganizedliving.com/2010/11/17/chocolate-chip-banana-muffins/
Thanks Tammy, I’ll have to try those!
Love the outfit! And I love chocolate chip muffins. Chocolate chip anything, really.
Wow!! I see snow! What a huge change from AZ, huh? The outfit is gorgeous and I agree it’s timeless. Love the layers you’ve been working with since the weather is more fitting. :)
LOVE that jacket! Your outfit makes me want to wear mine – maybe tomorrow! Thanks!
Love that blouse! Is that a recent find?
It was, just a couple weeks ago at Ross.
Dude, I’ve had the same issue! Made the betty crocker recipe from the book and they were dense and awful. Made them from the BC box and they are amazeballs. Don’t get it, but we stick to the box now. P.S. your bomber is the bomb! That little jewel is why you love me ;)
haha, you know I do Nina. And yes to the BC stuff. The recipe I used was from the BC cookbook. Yuck.
I just LOVE your outfit, especially the gorgeous blouse.
You always look as if you’ve stepped right out of a fashion magazine, it’s great.
I follow this other blog and they just posted about muffins with a heart on the bottom! Haven’t tried them but they look delicious and super sweet!

I have some similiar pants that I pulled out of my closet the other day!! You seriously look adorable!! :)
Love the outfit! I have some cute black pants like that but I still need to lose about 10 pounds of post baby fat to get into them. Darn it! Do you have any good tips on what to do when you can’t stand your current wardrobe because you’ve been wearing it for the last two 1/2 years (pregnancy and post pregnancy), but you still can’t fit into your before pregnancy clothes. I’m working on the weight loss, but I still have a ways to go. I really don’t want to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Love the muffin story by the way, thanks for a good chuckle. :)
I can’t believe you found that awesome jacket at Ross…I am never lucky when I go in there! Great outfit!

Cori,
I know that you are now making “boxed” muffins, but I must give you my secret! This is HANDS DOWN the most AMAZING bread EVER! My pastors wife gave me the recipe and I die for it! My husband and I salivate over it every Sunday after church. :)
ENJOY!
CHOCOLATE CHIP BANANA BREAD
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 stick butter, softened
2 eggs
3 medium sized ripe bananas
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk chocolate chips
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom of bundt pan with Crisco shortening and dust with flour. Mix sugar and butter in large bowl. Stir in eggs until well blended. Add bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Mix in remaining ingredients except chocolate chips just until moistened. Stir in chocolate chips. Pour into pan. Bake about 45 minutes until top is light brown and wooden pick comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes. Remove from pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Slice and spread with butter. Serve warm with a glass of cold milk. Enjoy!
our daughter got a williams sonoma children’s cookbook that has an amazing blueberry muffin recipe. she made them *almost* by herself twice over christmas break. maybe you need to let your daughter try and they will turn out :-)
