gentlemen.

Pants: Banana Republic (thrifted and altered).  Sweater: Old Navy.  White Button-up/Necklace: The Loft.  Blazer/bag: Thrifted.  Shoes: Gift (thanks Megs!)

Guys, check out these pink pants.  Remember how I told you that I found the best thrift store ever?  Well, I scored these babies there too.  Except when I first bought them, they weren’t much of a score.  They were actually quite hideous.  One of those cropped bell-bottom capri numbers.  That was a fashion fail if I ever saw one.  But it also means whoever erred on that front ended up donating these babies barely worn.  Perfectly positioning me to scoop them up for a steal, take them home and alter the heck out of them until they were a lovely pair of blush colored bottoms, cropped to perfection.

I really love pink.

Especially now that I spend the majority of every day surrounded by boys.

Since I grew up in a predominately female family, and the only male I had for a sibling was my super sweet Down Syndrome brother, raising littles of the more masculine variety is a bit of a foreign concept.

It’s wildly important to me that my male littles grow up to be gentlemen.  I feel I owe it to their future wives; a pass it on of sorts.  After all, somebody made sure that Mr. grew up to be one, and guess who benefits from that?

 Me, that’s who.

So anyways, that means I spend a healthy portion of every day pounding into their little crew-cut heads that they need to be gentle with their sister, be polite when asking for things, let Cecilia the little girl down the street climb onto the bus first, open the door for that lady at the grocery store, and so on.

Sometimes I wonder if any of it is getting through, until I emerged from the bedroom the other morning.  Ethan took one look at my pink pants, dalmatian print sweater, and blush colored necklace then exclaimed, “Mommy, you look beautiful.”

Despite the incessant wrestling, the obsession with predatory animals, the collection of “gifts” that get brought in from the back yard (ie; sticks, rocks, pine cones, and the occasional caterpillar), I’d say being a mom of boys is heavenly.

Plus all the random animal factoids do come in quite handy.  I mean, you never know when you might be out in public and suddenly need to know just exactly what it is that a sperm whale eats.

It’s squid, by the way.

I have three little brothers, but I helped my mom raise my youngest brother the most. I taught him to memorize a line from Johnny Lingo, “Many things can happen to make a woman beautiful, but the thing that matters most is what she thinks of herself” (That’s probably not totally correct) I’d like to think that I helped him become a little bit of what he is today (A super awesome high school senior who treats girls so very nicely)

I love that you are always able to alter things to suit you. Can I ask how you learned to sew? Is it something your mom taught you or did you teach yourself? I’m not quite as petite as you are (I’m 5’2″) but I am short enough that most things don’t fit me quite right. In fact I’m sort of in between in that regular stuff is way too long but petite clothes are often just a touch too short. Sigh. I really need to learn to sew!

Cori, you did a great job on the pants. Nothing makes us look shorter than those bell bottom capri pants! Yikes!!! And…you are doing a great job with the littles. They are very fortunate to have you as their mom.

  10. I have two boys of my own–my oldest of which I raised on my own and I have had the same thoughts (especially because their fathers were NOT gentlemen). Good job Cori! And your son’s comment is heart melting. I love when my boys say something like that to me! You do look beautiful, by the way.

I love your writing and the stories of your littles. I am also raising a gentleman (he’s one) and it is such a blessing to know God is using us for his glory. Thank you for doing a good parenting job and reminding us to do the same.

I love the outfit! I have been lusting after shoes like those for a while now…Very chic.

You did a wonderful job with the pants. I’m now thinking about what pants I have that I might be able to fix. For a while, they didn’t have much available for someone my size (or I wasn’t finding it OR they just didn’t perfect the styling so well for someone who’s petite), and I bought some things only because they were the best available at the time…For some reason, I still have some of these things…
