chairs.

Black skinnies, Vest: The Loft. White Shirt: Gap.  Flats: Marshalls. Ring: Target.  Bomber Jacket/Umbrella: Ross.  Earrings:?? Necklace: The Vintage Pearl.

Disclaimer: the last time I wore this vest I failed to mention that it was “faux” fur, so Peta you may now put the attack dogs away.  Thank you.

I have a confession.

I have watched “You’ve Got Mail” twice in the last week.

Twice.

I just love that movie.  It’s so darling.  Tom Hanks cracks me up in it, and I love Meg Ryan’s bookshop and pretty much everything she wears, and her hairstyle.  It almost makes me want to chop my hair off just like hers, even though that particular coiffure it isn’t really in style, but then I remember that I don’t have Meg Ryan’s face.

Anyways…

The truth is, I love a great love story.

And despite the fact that I am often sarcastic, practical, and down to earth, I’m a hopeless romantic at heart.

And I don’t mean cheesy overtures, spectacles on holidays, or mushy over-the-top but empty confessions of adoration.

I’m talking about real love.

Real love stories exist, did you know that?

I do.

And there’s a secret to them, but I bet you’ve hardly heard it.

To tell you, I think I’ll just quote a little Robert Duvall via Phenomenon:

“[He] has a love at his side and she is sticking with him.  You know why?  Because he bought her chairs….every woman has her chair, something she needs to put herself into… you ever figure out what [her] chairs were and buy ’em?”

I’ll just change that a little.  Every person has their chair, something they need to put themselves into, figure out what their chair is and buy it.

People who fall in love and remain in love, invest in each other.  They work to understand each other.  They treat each other with more kindness, more consideration than they would a stranger.  They encourage each other in their dreams, and console through the failures.  They stick with it, even when it isn’t fun.  He keeps opening the door for her, she keeps putting on lipstick before he gets home from work.

And when years later they’re still in love and everyone wonders how it’s possible that they’re even married, let alone like each other, that will still be the reason why.

It’s the law of entropy.  If you don’t put effort into something, it flounders.

Your health, money, job, relationships, family, car, you name it.

Before this gets too scientific, I’ll just finish by saying, I’m so grateful to be with someone who always opens the door for me, who buys my chairs, even the silly ones, and makes it easy for me to want to buy his.

And yes, I still put on lipstick and brush my teeth before he gets home from work. ;-)

Still in love with you Mr.

Always.

  1. So many times I have quoted that movie, in that EXACT spot!! I remember watching that movie with my Mr., and him telling me that he would buy my chairs!! We still use it on each other today. When I am trying to get his appoval, I will give him the line, “Just buy my chair, ok?”

I totally teared up at that. I absolutely love it. Would you terribly mind if I quote you on my FB? Or even put that on canvas for my room. So absolutely *swoon* worthy. I now have to look for the movie.

I’ve been so lucky to have my husband home with me after the birth of Sofia Marie, however he is going back in April. Makes me sad but so blessed that he has been home for the first 6 months of her life.

Love that movie! JUST LOVE IT.
Gorgeous outfit as always. LOVE the touch of Blue.

I’m pretty excited for an amazing opportunity I have today, I am getting the chance to interview Janette Ewen, a TV Stylist. I would love to have you pop by and see it if you can.

We all have dreams as Fashion Bloggers… mine are incredibly big. Interviews and Opportunities like these only get me that much closer. Pure Excitement right now <3

I love you, you are completely adorable and by reading these comments this post was adorable but after the mean spirited passive aggressive dig at the readers who questioned the vest I really didn’t want to read it. Calling people who state their opinion in a kind and respectful manner attack dogs is not very nice. I really do adore your blog, read it every day but I found that to be quite rude.

If my comment at the beginning of this post offended you, I am truly sorry. I absolutely did not intend it for any of my readers, who I agree, stated their opinion kindly and respectfully. I merely meant to clarify that my vest was faux fur, and the little anecdote on the end was just meant to be funny, and not at all as an insult or even directed at any of them. I don’t believe in passive aggressive behavior. If I had any problem, whatsoever with any of the people who commented, I would have written it clearly or kept it to myself. None of the comments that were written on the original fur post bothered me in the slightest, in fact, I enjoyed them. And that is probably the reason why it didn’t even occur to me that someone might mistake what I wrote to be a jab at them. Nothing could have been further from my intent. I love my readers and would never purposely insult them. Thanks for the comment.

  14. You should watch the original, “Shop Around the Corner” with Jimmy Stewart. It’s a Christmas movie, which makes it even more wonderful.
