Guys, I’m in that su-per awkward phase where nothing really fits, I look a little fat, and the belly isn’t really big enough to work that “check out my fabulous baby bump” routine quite yet. So I just look like I’ve let myself go in a big way. Plus, I’m still super nauseated, and I’m over 12 weeks, so what the heck is up with that? Mr. is convinced my extreme bout with ickyness this week is due to travel and the lack of sleep that resulted from it. I hope he’s right, I really hope he’s right. I’m not complaining. I love having this little one in my belly, but I always felt better immediately at 12 weeks and so I sort of mentally put that out there, and all my resolve just crumbled the second I hit my second trimester and didn’t feel instantly better. Unreasonable? Perhaps. But true.
Also, let me tell you a little secret. I swell easily. There it is. I mean I swell easily all the time (water retention is a family curse) but that’s the kind of thing that has a tendency to get 50 times worse whilst pregnant. You should have seen me when I got pre-eclampsia with Miss Hannah. No wait, you shouldn’t, it was gross. Let me just say Jabba the Hut and leave it at that.
So, I’ve been doing all this research on how to reduce swelling while pregnant. Don’t you love the internet? You can find everything on here. Like how I need to drink about a gillion glasses of water a day, and not eat salty foods and exercise consistently and that should help reduce the swelling. I knew I was doing everything wrong! Salty foods are pretty much the only thing I can stomach right now, drinking large amounts of water makes me super gaggy, and I slept in till the last possible minute instead of getting up early to exercise all week. No wonder I’m bloated! Huh.
But I also found that some genius has invented targeted facial exercises to help reduce chubby cheeks, and double-chins. A few simple steps and I’ll suddenly have a defined jaw line and chiseled cheeks! Where have you been all my life, facial exercise guru?!
I couldn’t make this stuff up.
Aaaand, moving on.
Let’s talk about pattern mixing for a minute shall we? I really love it, but I’m also not all about walking out of the house looking like a clown. Pattern mixing can be dangerous territory. Sometimes I think it’s used as a bit of a free for all. Put on whatever you want that doesn’t match or flatter for that matter, call it pattern mixing and voila`, you’re a fashionista.
Anyways, I am not. So to me, when mixing patterns, it has to make sense. Like this striped shirt, floral scarf, and chevron bag. All in coral- we’re hitting the same hue here, and all in subtle complimentary patterns- so as to not overwhelm on-lookers. If that means I dress a little safe, oh well. At this point in adulthood, I just want to feel good in my clothes.
Love the purse!! With my second, I was counting the days until 12 weeks, but I still didn’t feel well after 12 weeks and I was like what is going on?? :( I hope you start to feel better soon!
You look Great! And I love the coral and mint green together!

I am with you on not feeling well right away. I’m 15 weeks today and I thought that whole nausea was gone for good – nope – it’s here in full force today.
I agree with the hubs, traveling and lack of sleep doesn’t help. We’re in the states visiting family and although I have family around the hubster is back in the UK so it’s just me and the kiddies. I always notice I feel worse on days the kids don’t nap well, which means I don’t nap – and nights they have a rough night. Try to catch some z’s and you’ll get better soon!
xoxo
I adore these hues together! It makes me want to run off of the store today.
People kept telling me I’d feel better at 12 weeks. Then they would say 18 weeks. Someone even told me 24 weeks. If someone would have just told me I’d be throwing up all 41 weeks, it really would have helped me not get so snarky!
Adorable pattern mixing! Love the colors on the chevron striped bag!
I hear ya on the nausea thing. I was always so grateful to be pregnant, but holy cow, that nausea is miserable. I was deathly ill with all 3 of mine — I literally couldn’t keep a thing down until after 20 weeks. They had to put me on Zofran — blech.
I hope the sickness goes away soon — hang in there! And it is totally ok to get a little snarky while in the throws of morning sickness ;)
Hope the nausea goes away soon for you, Cori! I love the subtle pattern mixing in your outfit. I also tend to stick to a monochromatic color palette when mixing patterns so it doesn’t look too out there.

Ugh. See what happens when you have those kinds of expectations? I guess you have to roll with it. It will be worth the trouble, I’m sure. :)
I bloat up easily also. It’s very annoying…especially when I already have a chubby face…and legs…no matter how much I weigh.
Hope you feel better soon!
With my other 2, I had nausea well into my second trimester. I hit 12 weeks on Saturday and I’m still nauseous and feeling icky. It’s crazy that I started showing super early but I’m glad to be past that awkward stage where I just looked fat around the middle-especially since my smallest is 11 months and I was self-conscious thinking people were thinking that I hadn’t worked off the baby weight yet. Lol
I was nauseated the whole 9 months, so I can only imagine your expectations to be feeling better at 12 weeks and they are shattered! :(
And honestly, as someone that knew you while you were pregnant with Hannah, you lookd adorable AND you definitely haven’t changed. You still look adorable and you can’t even tell you are expecting yet.
LOVE these colors!
Cori, You are a doll! I love your style and you put your outfits together so beautifully. Feet up and rest whenever you can…if that’s possible?? I hope you feel better soon. I agree with Mister, I think the travel threw you for a loop. Blessings to you sweet lady~
Honestly, you still look great. From your Hawaii photos, you could tell that was a baby bump and not five too many sandwiches, which is what I like to brag as my “food baby”.
Like several other commenters, I was nauseous and/or throwing up at all times during my entire pregnancies. Don’t be afraid to ask for Zofran! My docs tried giving me phenergen at first, but it totally knocked me out and made me SO groggy, and did nothing for the vomiting. They all told me that I waited WAY too long to ask for “real” help (I was trying ginger pills and all sorts of strange things people told me to try); that it’s no big deal to ask them for something to get you through the day when you need it, especially with lots of other little ones who need your attention.
I do hope you feel better soon, but if not, go see your doctor!
Oh the nausea! That was what I hated about being pregnant! I was sick throughout the day for the whole 9 months and was throwing up even while pushing my baby out!
Hope it gets better soon. You look lovely here!
So I totally LOVE the bag and your entire outfit! I hope you feel better soon and I know you said you got the bag at Ross, but who is the maker? Love your blog and look forward to hearing more!
You look great! I love that bag…and Ross! How much did you get it for?
I flew from South Africa to New Zealand at 11 weeks preg and definitely had some of my worst nausea those first few days back (having mostly been okay until then). Jet lag, exhaustion and straight back to work wasn’t ideal for me. But a lazy weekend at home got me back to normal. Hope you’re the same and it passes quickly.
I totally agree that there still has to be some reason of putting clothes together. Pattern mixing should have similar colors. I love your style!
I love the way you mixed those patterns together! It looks fabulous! And I want that BAG.
Love your blog n ur mix of mint n coral when did u get ur striped coral shirt hope the nausea goes away soon for ya
You are adorable. Love the pattern mixing. And the nausea… Ugh! My doc put me on 1/2 a unisom and 150mgs of Zantac at night, then a b 6 vitamin with meals 3 times a day. I can’t function without it. Took my nausea away and I feel great. You should try it.
I love this outfit! That first stage of pregnancy is the pits! Good luck with the nausea, hope it ends soon!
Creamy
Aw….you will still look uber cute swollen! :)) Plus, you mentioned having pre-eclampsia with Hannah? She’s the only one?! If so, that give me hope!! :))
I think mixing patterns is great, as long as they are in the same color family (like what you did here). I think it looks great!
