stay-puff.

Gingham Button-up: J. Crew.  Jacket: Old Navy.  Pants: Loft.  Shoes: Target.  Necklace: Ross.

The laughter in this picture is conveniently hiding the fact that my face is already getting quite puffy.

At 13 weeks.

I’d be lying if I said this didn’t terrify me a bit.  I became quite a beast when I was pregnant with Miss Hannah.  Long story short, apparently my body was allergic to being pregnant with her, and that resulted in extreme swelling.  Not one of those cute fabulous baby bumps in front you see all over the internet.

Swelling all over my face, hands, and feet.

In short, I looked like a toddler.

But not in the cute way.

You know it’s bad when complete strangers stop to tell you how awful you look and then ask if you are okay.  Yeah, I wish I was kidding.

Multiple times.

My friends and family try to tell me it wasn’t that bad, but I know the truth.

I’ve seen the pictures.

(THANKS FAM FOR PHOTO DOCUMENTING HANNAH’S ENTIRE BIRTH PROCESS IN WHICH I LOOK LIKE THE STAY-PUFF MARSHMALLOW MAN.)

Anyways,  I have no idea where I was going with this.

Oh yeah, I have a slight suspicion that it may be a girl.  You know, because of the whole swelling thing. (I didn’t swell with the boys)

Also, at the doctor on Monday they told me I’m measuring big.  Which makes sense because, I feel big.  It was totally a “Joe vs The Volcano” moment. “I knew it!  I mean, I didn’t know it, but I knew it!”  Please tell me someone knows what I’m talking about.

side note: Joe vs. the Volcano is like Mr’s all time favorite movie.  How random is that?

Anyways, so when the MD told me I was measuring big I was totally too afraid to ask her if that means it could be twins.  A. Because then I would be having twins, and how the heck do I fit two babies in this child size body?  And B. I didn’t want to sound like an idiot, and have her say “no, little monkey, it just means you’re measuring big.” Then pat me on the head reassuringly.

Plus, it was super awkward, because well, right then she was examining me, and if you’ve been to an OB-GYN you know why.

ps. you know what made me laugh in these pics?  Mr. said I make weird faces when I’m nervous.

Duly noted.

Oh man, I’m a short person and being pregnant was rough on my body! People would say, “You’re showing really early!” Gee, thanks. I’m just over 5 feet, where else does this baby have to go but out? I feel you!!

  3. Don’t worry about the swelling, it’s the “brain clouds” that you have to worry about! You look adorable and I’m dying that Joe vs the Volcano is your husbands favorite movie.

First of all congratulations! I love reading your blog. Not to scare you or any thing, but I’m 5 foot nothing and just had triplets a few months ago. I too “measured big” by 8 weeks. You still look fabulous and am sure you will through this.

Oh don’t worry. You look amazing! I’m 5’1 and gained about 50 pound when I was pregnant with my boy, so… I totally looked like Humpty Dumpty. I admit that I made myself out of control because my boy was only 5Lbs and 10oz. Lol.

    Oh Cori, don’t worry…
One of my friends who is about your size is having twins, and at 13 weeks, she stood back to back with another friend who was 23 weeks along with one baby, and their bumps were the same size.
Then she did it again when she was 20 weeks with a different friend who was 38 weeks, and THEIR bumps were the same… I’m pretty positive that if it was twins, you’d definitely know by now with how teensy you were to start out with. :)
Oh and my friend who’s pregnant with twins? She’s now 25 weeks and can barely stand to do anything besides sit or lay on the couch because her belly is so gigantic and heavy. She literally starts to tip over if she stands up straight and doesn’t lean on anything. :)
