thanks.

I took Mr. Ethan to Target yesterday while the other two littles were at school.  When we were done buying our stuff and after we had stopped for the customary popcorn/Icee from the snack bar, we made our way out to the parking lot.  When we got to our car Ethan asked me to stop.  There was a bus parked just across from us.  They were in the process of loading up several severely handicap children.  I suppose Ethan wanted to watch because they had that nifty auto-platform that raises the wheelchair up into the bus.  That’s got to seem like the coolest thing to a 4-year-old.  He was mesmerized.  Me, I couldn’t take my eyes off the people loading those kids onto the bus.

I wanted to run up and kiss every single one of them.

I didn’t.

But I wanted to.

After I loaded my stuff into the car and climbed in, and overwhelming feeling of gratitude washed over me.  Gratitude for every person who chooses to care for those special people.

Particularly these two.

My sister Tashi and her co-teacher Heather.

Who are the most amazing high school special ed teachers.

And to Heather, who just finished her last day teaching, so she can spend more time with her sweet baby,

thank you so much.

You’re incredible.

Incredible, incredible people. The ones with the disabilities AND the ones helping them out. In a world with decaying morals, their sweet spirits are so valuable.

I teach music in an intermediate building, but one of the most gratifying parts of my job is teaching our weekly class for the multihandicapped students. Their enthusiasm and love for what we are doing in class is so pure.
