when things get ugly.

Top: Old Navy.  Skirt: Ross.  (Similar here.) Scarf: c/o Florence Adams.

I’m not going to lie.

I look terrible right now.

Full-on swelling of the ankles, feet, hands and face has arrived, and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.  My lips are unnaturally puffy.  I’m not sleeping well, and to top it off, my allergies are going bananas right now.

In other words, when I emerge from the bed each morning, my face looks like it doubles as a punching bag.

A few hours from the mattress doesn’t seem to have any effect on the problem, so it seems the nastiness is here to stay until this little decides she’s ready to come out.

The last time I had a baby, my other two were babies themselves.  They were almost too young to be aware that I was pregnant, let alone swollen.

Well, not any more.

And you know what they say about the mouth of babes.

I’ve been bracing myself for the inevitable “Mom looks terrible” comment for the past few weeks.

But.

Yesterday in church, Hannah spent the entire time sitting next to me, playing with the curls in my hair and telling me she loved me.

Ethan doesn’t walk past me without first wrapping his little arms around my belly and kissing the baby.

And the other day after I accidentally knocked into Carter with my large bump, then apologized for hitting him with my huge stomach, he patted it softly and said, “It’s not that big mom.  Don’t worry about it.”

It’s nice to know when things get ugly I’ve got 3 littles who love me enough not to see it.

I’m pretty sure I don’t deserve to be their mom, but I thank God He let me anyway.

  11. Delurking to tell you that you look gorgeous! I hope this last bit flies by for you (but not so fast that you don’t treasure your wonderful children, and remember their beautiful acts of tenderness!) I wish you realized just how graceful you look, at a time when a woman generally looks her most ungainly. Hang in there!

  17. I just read your kid’s comments to my husband because he asked me what I was, “awwwing” about. They are so sweet. This post made me smile. And I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, but I think you still look beautiful! The end is soooo close!

You look absolutely incredible, and I am sure like every woman imagines herself looking when pregnant. Even with the not-so-pretty stuff going on, your photos are lovely, and you look so radient and just gorgeous! In my two pregnancies it was a challenge to feel attractive at all, and I just really embraced the idea that physical beauty is not everything, got over feeling ugly, and went on with my life. There were enough physical discomforts anyway, that the physical side kind of fell by the wayside. Your children are so sweet, too!

By the way, my outfit today was inspired by one you posted last year. :) I do so enjoy your style and your pregnancy style has continued to be inspirational. You are a lovely lady and your children’s attitudes are clearly a reflection of your parenting. God bless, sweetie.

  24. What a beautiful blog post. I know that it’s hard, but just think, it’s almost over. You look absolutely stunning. And your bump is gorgeous. Just think of that sweet little angel growing inside of you. She will be out saying hi to you soon enough. My son is 3.5 yrs old and I’ve been dealing with a health issue for the past month. I was diagnosed with pericarditis and essentially have chest pain 100 % of the time. Anyways my son has been amazing. He kisses my chest every day and asks me how I’m doing. He has been the best medicine for me and has taken the best care of me. We are truly blessed to have our children. Good luck,

    Agi:)

Well, if you’re swelling, you sure are hiding it pretty good :) Lovely, as always.

As far as I know, swelling is connected to the salt consumption. Too much salt during pregnancy leads to swelling.
