I don’t know why but every time I wear a trench coat it reminds me of The Matrix. Maybe that’s because The Matrix was basically the biggest movie ever when I was a teenager. I realize that by admitting that I am dating myself.

But the reality is, I’m turning 30 in less than a month.
30.
I’m not quite sure how I feel about leaving my 20’s behind, but in a way I feel kind of optimistic about it. My 20’s were fun, but they were also kind of hard.
I mean, I went to college, got married, had four babies, helped Mr. finish his bachelors, then Masters degrees, learned exactly how expensive those degrees were, bought and sold houses and cars, lived in 5 different states, and started a clothing line.
It’s been a busy decade.
Good, but busy.
And I kind of feel like my 30’s are going to be even better, and maybe not quite as hard.
Like maybe someday Mr. and I will stop being gypsies and settle down.
(preferably in the same town as my sisters, because I miss them all the time, and I’m kind of done living far away from them.)
But anyways, back to trench coats.
Definitely another closet staple must-have. I really love this color block gem from Florence Adams because it’s fun and a bit unexpected, but still neutral and functional.
And here’s a little tip for you: If you’re like me and prefer to wear your trench coat open but want it to hang just right, tie the belt in the back to cinch up the extra bulk and it will lay beautifully on the sides.

We’re almost the same age, I’ll be 30 in June. And while I’m pregnant with just my second I still feel to young to be a mom. That feeling of disbelief that I have kids will probably never go away!
Love this look. You’re right, this colorblock trench is a gem and I love the sparkle you added underneath!
Our twenties are for learning what we need to set the stage for our 30’s. Just think, you will be done molding everything you need. And you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labors in your 30’s from the 20’s.
At least that is what I am telling myself being close to 28. Ha.
I turn 30 at the beginning of next year and I am cautiously optimistic about entering into this new age bracket!

Each stage of our lives brings different things. Our 30’s are spent raising our kids and I believe getting comfortable in our own skin. It’s amazing to think what happens in a decade. Great outfit by the way. Love the trench.

This is definitely going on my list of must haves; after I read the No Brainer Wardrobe I am committed to get only items that I love and make me feel amazing (my goal is to have only 60pcs). As a 37 yr old I have a better understanding of who I am now. Love the 20’s but my 30’s have been illuminating.
Oh the Matrix #iamoldtoo
Your tip for cinching the back of the trench is genius. I don’t know why I never thought of that!
The 30s are great–like Nina said above, you have a better idea of who you really are. I turned 32 two weeks ago and while sometimes it seems “so old”, most of the time, I feel like it’s just a number!
Cori, I absolutely love your style. If only you could come over and help me restyle my wardrobe:) Happy Holidays!
You are one hot mamma… Love the trench

See … I read that hashtag and I see, “I a mold.” And then I think while not proper grammar, it works. ;)
you are certainly not old — you are one young and hot momma! I’m 29 too so I do feel you! xo

28 and wondering what the 30’s hold for me. But you look great!
Thanks for that FABULOUS tip about keeping the trench coat open! I have a great trenchcoat I never wear because I’m too busty to button it all the way. This will let me wear it again! :)
Wishing you the best in your next decade. You’re not old! I do think that even if life stays busy or gets crazy, you can handle things more calmly in your 30s than 20s. You have more time to mature and more life experience. In my 30’s so far I’ve lived in 3 countries on 2 different continents and visited a couple of others. I’ve thought before that I’m glad I didn’t do it 10 years ago because the stressful parts would have been harder on me.
I also thought of this quote by Anne Lamont:
“Age has give me what I was looking for my entire life- it gave me me. It provided me the time and experience and failures and triumphs and friends who helped me step into the shape that had been waiting for me all my life… I not only get along with me most of the time now, I am militantly and maternally on my own side.”
You such and inspiration to me im 23 years old and have so many plans and objectives just reading your blog motivates me to keep going forward.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this!!!! I could never figure out how to wear my trench vest because it always seemed too big and floppy to leave open but your trick worked like a charm and now I will be able to wear that vest again!
