entropy.

I’m a real traditionalist when it comes to weather.  I like the seasons to occur in the month they were intended to occur, and feel the way they were intended to feel.  Unfortunately, I live in Arizona, and we don’t have seasons.  We have season.  As in ONE.
Suuuuuumer.
And it last for a good 9-10 months.
Then we have our two months of Spring and Fall, which occur in February and January respectively.  This week we are having winter.  But it’s Wednesday now which means winter is half over.
You see my problem.  The weather here is wonky.
The only way I survive the hell that is our summer, is by taking advantage of the January that is our fall.
So while the rest of the country is hulled up in their houses enduring record breaking lows, we went hiking.
Ironically, every person we passed on the trail had something to say about how cold it was.
These Arizonans…
60 degrees and sunny IS. NOT. COLD.
Anyways, it was nice to get out and above the city and suburbs, breathe fresh desert air and get a little dirty.  Just a little.  It reminded me how hard core my littles are.  Kids can hike like little pros.  (def got that from Mr.)  Even Ava was hardcore and slept peacefully snuggled up in her Moby wrap the entire time.  Don’t you love how scruffy and homeless we all look.  Seriously, there is some kind of universal truth about being a mother, the very second I’m not combing, changing, wiping, cleaning, matching them, their hair, their clothes they take on a general raggedy orphan look.  Perpetual entropy.
I guess everything’s a little bit like that in life, which sometimes amazes me, and sometimes makes me feel exhausted.
I don’t really know where I am going with this, (seriously, weather to the second law of thermodynamics?)
So I’ll just end by saying I am a huge fan of this Moby wrap Mr. got me for Christmas.  Why oh why didn’t they have these back when Hannah was a baby and had colic? Ava is so so happy in there, and I can get so much done without feeling like a bad mommy for neglecting my child.
I’m heading to New York for a textiles show in a couple weeks and I’m seriously considering ditching the stroller altogether and just bringing this for carting her around the city with me.
Thoughts?

  1. When I traveled with a baby, I’d bring both. I used the stroller as a cart in the airport for all of our luggage and car-seats, but carried the baby in my wrap. However, big sister was still of stroller sitting age too, so I liked the safety net aspect too. You could probably get by without one if you’re a light packer!

  3. Great outfit. Love the Toms. I have 2 pairs and one of them is red. Lived in them last spring, summer and fall. I would bring the stroller just in case that way you have some place to put things when you are shopping or walking around. It is cumbersome though to travel with. I wish it was warm most of the year. It rains most of the year here. Can’t wait for spring!!!

I think you guys look great! Not homeless at all! And, Carter is growing up to be so handsome!! You’re becoming a real New York jet setter! Have a fab. time! I’d take both the stroller and wrap, just to have the stroller to store your diaper bag and shopping bags. I miss the stroller sometimes just for that purpose. Next time jet set it right on up here little lady!! I need to get my hands on that babe!!

Umm, I know you’re complaining about not having winter, but right now I would trade you places in an instant. Here in Orem it has been below freezing we’re talking 15 degrees for about 3 weeks now, and even the couple days it got above freezing it was about 35 degrees. I need some sun and warmth right about now!

It looks like you guys had a fun exploration adventure. And I love that moby wrap, so cute!

When I went to NYC with an 8 week old baby, I used my front pack and I would definately recommend going that way. No hassle getting on the train, no problems walking in crowded areas, up and down steps, etc. My baby wasn’t very big at the time (7lbs) so I didn’t get sore at all. The only problem that I ran into was security in one place; they made me take my sleeping baby out to show them that I was not a terrorist hiding anything strange. I used a bigger bag to carry my wallet and all the diapers and baby things that I needed for the day.

I traveled for almost two weeks in London with my ergo which I would recommend better for travel because its easier to take on and off. I have both the ergo and moby and love them both! I traveled though with both my stroller and ergo for my three old now was three months then and she slept the whole time. Travelling with an infant is super easy. Plus you need something to hold your infant car seat and i would not recommend that you travel with baggage, car seat, diaper bag and other things keeping your hands super full. The stroller is great to hold the car seat while baby is in carrier. You will need a carseat while riding in a taxi.

    Cheers and Happy Travels

  12. You look great! And your family is most adorable… Littles always look like they haven’t ever been groomed haha I notice myself thinking that too – but when I see how active they’re, to make anything stick to them you will need lots of super glue

I would bring a stroller too. The moby hurt my upper back between my shoulder blades. It hurt so bad it was hard to breath. I wound up getting the ergo, which still snuggles him like the moby, but it evenly distributes baby’s weight around your upper body. Now i dont get any pain from carrying my son. Good luck and have fun!

  14. I am so jealous of your weather – we have the opposite here in Alberta: 9+ months of winter with the joke they call fall (it lasted exactly 1.5 weeks this year before it snowed and never left), spring that doesn’t start until June and summer in July and August and even then it could be as cold as 60 on any given summer day here! I would seriously be so happy to have warm weather all year round but I guess the grass is always greener …..

  15. You are gorgeous, as always. And I totally know what you mean about the season thing, I just moved to Florida from Utah. People think it is so cold at 60 degrees and I am in a light jacket if that. So funny!

  16. I swore by the moby wrap when Peanut was little and I would DEFINITELY ditch the stroller in NYC and stick with just the wrap. Makes for easy walking/taxi-ing/subway-ing without all the fuss of the extra space of the stroller. Not to mention you can bring more things on the plane!

    Safe travels!

I rarely mind a good flippant remark, but a little perspective please. The homeless aren’t vagabonding about in Toms and Moby wraps.
