I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid I loved to play dress-up. It was probably my favorite thing to do. Me and my sisters would go rummaging through the box of old dresses my mom had rounded up from here or there and create little dramas, all decked out in someone’s old prom dress. It was fantastic. One of my favorite things about being an adult is getting to dress up whenever I want. Sure it’s nice to have something fancy to go to, but I never let a random Wednesday stop me from putting on something that makes me feel pretty. Sequins are one of those things that make me fabulous, and as a result I like to wear them the most in a daily type setting, you know, during the week, when I’m running kids to-and-fro and working in my studio. I’ve curated quite a little collection of sequin tops in the last few years and they are one of my favorite items to pull from. When I’m wearing sequins on the daily, I like to pair them with boot cut, or boyfriend jeans because it kind of tones them down, but I also love to use the sequins in my closet to dress up my basics. Because I’m not often attending galas I don’t have an array of fancy attire in my closet, but I have plenty of pencil skirts and great everyday staple pieces. I love pairing a sequin top with a printed pencil skirt, it really dresses it up and takes an office appropriate silhouette to a party-ready ensemble in no time. With the holidays rapidly approaching (hello, where did this year go?) I know I’ll be pulling out this combo again and again.
Great sequin tops here, here, and here.
Fabulous pencil skirts here and here. ;-)

you have the best skirt collection! love this
I love the idea of dressing up your basics for special occasions! I’m a mom of two, so I, too, don’t have tons of dressy clothes.
The Everlane blouse is listed online as slightly sheer, but I noticed you wore it on the blog without a top layer? What’s your secret to staying “discrete”?
Brooke, I know it says it’s slightly sheer, but I haven’t noticed it at all. It’s no more sheer than any other white blouse. I have a jcrew white silk blouse that’s much more sheer, I wear a cream tank under it.
I love this look on you!!
Your spangly sweater looks great with the cream and gold pencil skirt … very chic!!
