I love a good polished outfit.  A silky blouse tucked into a high-waisted skirt with a clean silhouette always makes me feel great in my own skin.  When I get dressed in the morning, more than anything that is my goal, to have my clothes make me feel great in my own skin.   Some days that results in something daring, some days it results in something simple and polished.  I feel like I’ve changed a lot in that way over the last 5 years.  I guess growing up all the way sort of teaches you how to be okay as yourself, and I feel really okay with myself as person and a mother.  I don’t worry about what other people think of me, or whether they think petites should wear a midi skirt or not.  It makes it easier to do things for the right reasons.

I took all four kids to the dentist yesterday morning.  I’m nursing a bad cold so dragging them all in there was not my favorite thing to have to do, I would have rather been in bed, especially since it was Ava’s first time going, and she did not want to play nice with the rotary brush.  She’s such a fourth child, and I love it.  Head strong and sure of herself, funny and let’s face it, a little bit of a bossy pants.  She walks around like she owns the joint wherever she is, and I think it’s just so, so funny.  Hannah was that kind of toddler and I wish I would have enjoyed it and not let it stress me out.  When I was a new mom I used to worry about that kind of stuff, but it was way more about what people would think of me as a mom than whether or not I was doing the right things.  I don’t worry about that any more.  So when the dentist was sort of condescendingly instructing me how to brush Ava’s teeth, even though I’ve got three other kids sitting right there in the office with me (who’ve never had a cavity) I just smiled and said “thank you.”  I used to worry that they might “think” I don’t know how to brush a baby’s teeth.  Now, I’m old enough to know that I don’t actually know everything, and that’s okay, and also it doesn’t really matter what someone else thinks of me, or what kind of parent I am.  My kids are turning out pretty great so far, so we’re going to keep on trucking.

No idea why I’m writing about that, but there you go.

Have a very polished Tuesday…

I love the pops of mint! I don’t even like going to the dentist, so I can’t even imagine how you survived with four kids.
