I love a good monochromatic outfit. I always feel about half a foot taller when I’m wearing pieces all in the same color family. Ironically, this look was kind of subconsciously inspired by all the gray, blustery weather we’ve been having lately, and then when we went to shoot a few quick pictures the sun came out. It was actually quite lovely for those 15 minutes before the clouds rolled back in and the wind started blowing and then it was freezing. But you know, I love blustery weather too, so I can’t complain.
I feel like this is a look that involves a whole bunch of great closet staples. While you’d think that composing an outfit in this way might end up boring, ironically pulling together a look with all basics can end up feeling chic and understated. Today’s outfit pays tribute to some of my all-time favorite closet staples. The black leather jacket, wide leg tweed trousers, a merino sweater, black pumps, a neutral infinity scarf and of course a chic black dome satchel. These are my closet power pieces, the ones I pull out over and over, they mix and remix in so many different ways, that I end up wearing and pairing them over and over again. My biggest piece of advice when choosing closet staples is to go classic. Pieces that are designed classic, and are well-made can be and intricate part of your working closet for years and years. For example. My mom bought a beautiful pair of classic leather riding boots in the seventies, and when I was a kid decades later they were still part of her closet. I’m all about investing in pieces that will last and stay in style for years to come.
Make sure and come back tomorrow, I’m going to be giving you some quick and fun last minute Halloween costume ideas you can pull out from pieces you already have in your closet.
