Our weekend was pretty great.  We had our weekly Friday pizza party with the kids, got to visit with friends, spent some time hiking in the mountains, and I took two very nice naps.  The weather was heaven on earth.  Really great weekends always make Monday sting just a little bit more than it should, but that’s life isn’t it?

Whenever the weather changes, it always takes me a few weeks to sort of sartorially catch up.  I’m still in the winter dressing mode and shedding the layers in favor of warmer weather styles, can sometimes prove a bit of a challenge.  Dresses are one of my favorite transitional pieces, mostly because they can be layered with ease on those finicky spring weather days, and they make feeling put together effortless.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a great shirtdress.  The shirtdress is like fashion’s gift to summer, and I love that you can find it in so many different silhouettes and colors now.  When I spotted this color block piece in Madewell (and on sale no less) I knew it had to be mine.  I mean, it has side seam pockets, and we all know how I feel about dresses with pockets…

It’s a boxier silhouette than I’ve tried before and the subtle high-low hem is definitely a change, but I think it’s kind of great to step outside your comfort zone every once in a while, especially when it comes to getting dressed.  I mean, they’re just clothes right?  Why not have fun with them.
