This month we are focusing on ideas for making January awesome instead of what it usually is, the most depressing month of the year…
Maybe this makes me a giant dork, but I am so happy in the snow. Like, giddy happy. It might have something to do with growing up in California where snow was a complete novelty. (The first time I ever saw snow while it was actually falling was when I went away to college in Idaho.) When January starts to feel extra dreary, like it often does in this third week, I like to throw on some snow clothes and head up to the snow for a romp in the fresh powder. A ski day, sledding or even just building a snowman with my kids does wonders for my mood (and everyone else’s) this month. And besides, everyone feels like a kid in the snow.
I’ve been considering adding a pair of Sorels to my all-weather line-up but I wasn’t really sure if it was necessary, given that Seattle doesn’t often get snow in the winter, and if we do it’s just a skiff. We go up to the pass very often though (weekly right now since the kids are in the middle of ski lessons) so this year I decided to take the plunge. I always do a lot of research before I buy any pair of boots (not just to determine whether or not they are good) but also because being as short as I am creates problems with fit and shaft height. I’ve talked a lot about my love for my Hunter boots (which I bought in kids- you can read the review on that here) and they have worked so well for me. Anyway, after going back and forth on this, I ended up going with Sorel kid boots and I’m perfectly happy that I did. I’m sure the adult version would have worked well for me too, but the fit/shaft height on the kids works perfectly for me, they look exactly the same as the adult boots, and are marvelous in the snow. Plus they cost quite a bit less. (that’s about the only time ever that it’s cheaper to be petite- I’m looking at you tailor.)
Speaking of marvelous. You guys, these leggings are magic. They are the most comfortable thing I have ever put on (the waist band is so wide!) and they kept me so warm while we played in the snow, but weren’t too warm to spend all Sunday afternoon after church lounging around the house in. (Which I did, by the way.) And also this sweathirt, because it’s like the second most comfortable thing (and my husband said I look cute in it– why do boys love lounge clothes so much?).
The world may never know…
Thank you for this post! I’ve been thinking of getting a pair of Sorel boots, and can wear a kids size, but I usually buy half sizes. Did you size up or down? I usally wear a 6.5 in women’s so buy a 4.5 in kids. Just wondering how the fit is on these boots?
I sized up just slightly. I typically wear a 5.5 in women’s and I ordered a 4 in kids. Hope this helps!
