weekend in west hartford.

Graphic Tee. Sweater.(also similar here.) Jeans(similar.) Bag. Booties. Sunglasses. Necklace. Ring.

We had some serious snow storms this week, which meant we ended up staying in all day on Thursday, and for a good chunk of the day on Friday.  These New England winter storms are no joke and we were reminded rather abruptly that we’re not in Seattle anymore.  The thing I’ve learned moving so many times and living in so many different climates, is to just embrace the weather wherever you live.  So we’re embracing the New England snow and ice, and we’re actually having a lot of fun with it.

It was actually nice and sunny on Saturday (even if it was freezing!) so we went and explored West Hartford for the afternoon.  So, so charming, especially with everything covered in snow.  We drove around and looked at all the pretty neighborhoods, then headed over to Blue Back square for a late lunch/early dinner, then took the kids to a movie.  It was a nice weekend, our first real one as a family since we got here.  Last weekend I was basically in an illness coma, and I have to tell you I am so happy to be feeling better.  Note to self: get a flu shot next year…

This is a weird time of year to get dressed, don’t you think?  I keep looking at all these cute spring things and then I look outside and I’m like, um… not going to be wearing any of that for a long, long time…

I am so glad I grabbed this sweater in January because it’s turned out to be such a great versatile piece in my closet.  (It’s still in stock in every size, by the way and only $34).  It was perfect last weekend when I really wanted to wear my new graphic tee, but the snowy weather made that a little tricky.  Layering up with a drapey sweater and then my favorite booties and some go-to boyfriend jeans made this spring/summer tee work despite the frigid February temps.

Boyfriend jeans are my go-to year round, and it’s probably one of the pieces I get asked about most often.  I’m always on the hunt for great new brands/pairs.  Here are a few of my current favorites: in the under $100 range, I love BlankNYC jeans and Vigoss.  In the $1-200 range I love Madewell .  I’ve been investing in some higher priced denim over the last year, because I live in my denim, and for the me the cost-per-wear makes it worth it.  So in the $2-300 range I am loving AG, Rag and Bone, and Citizens of Humanity.

I’m currently loving both this pair and this pair of CoH jeans.  Both of them get great reviews, so I just have to decide which pair…

A few tips for buying boyfriend jeans:

Distressing.  I love boyfriends with at least a little distressing.

Fit. If you have trouble finding a pair that fits a way you love, try a great pair of distressed skinny jeans and just size up 2 sizes.  You’ll get the slouch you want without the droopiness.  ;-)

The COH boyfriend jeans are great! I’ve had a pair for about 3 years. I found them on the clearance rack at Anthro and ended up getting them for over 60% off! They were worth every penny, and have held up well.
