a modern-day adventure in seattle with Timberland.

One of the questions I get asked the very most (even now that we’ve moved to the East Coast) is what my favorite things to do in Seattle are. So when Timberland approached me about taking you all on a modern day adventure through my favorite city, I jumped at the chance.

I know the streets and sidewalks of Seattle so well, even now when I close my eyes I can still hear it, smell it and feel it all.

So come along for a rainy adventure in the Emerald city.

The thing you need to know about Seattle is that everything people tell you about the weather is true.  It does’t really get that cold in Seattle but it really is some form of raining most of the time.  And mostly it’s a kind of misty rain that renders all umbrellas completely useless, so no one really uses them… except tourists (and even they seem to figure it out by the end of day one.)   A day in the city means embracing rained-on disheveled hair, and a jacket that never completely dries.  Seattle is also very hilly, something I didn’t realize until I moved here.  Only San Francisco has it beat for hills, and so walking around means lots of stairs and climbing up steep wet sidewalks. When I’m planning a day downtown, I always pick my footwear first.

One of my favorite things to do in the city is head to the waterfront.  There are amazing views of the Puget Sound, Alki Beach, and Bainbridge Island right from the pier by the Aquarium.  The whole city seems to fold up behind the waterfront and it’s such a pretty view looking back at the buildings from pier.  To me, Seattle feels like a place where nature and man meet.  There’s evergreen forests all around and then this amazing city, right on the water.  It’s very industrial with it’s shipping port, and artsy with it’s sculpture park, Chuhily Glass Garden and funky boutiques.  It’s a foodies dream with countless unique restaurants and also somehow still completely the rugged northwest.  All these things kind of meet at the waterfront.  I love to hang out on the pier and look for seals (I almost always see one), grab fish and chips at Ivars, or just watch the ferries go back and forth.

If you’re into antiques like me, there’s an amazing antique shop right across the street  with the most amazing treasures, and you really can’t beat the view.

Once I’m done at the waterfront it’s just a short jaunt (up a very big set of stairs) to Pike Place Market.  The flower stalls at Pike’s are the best I’ve ever seen and the prices literally cannot be beat.  They’re my favorite in the summer during peony season, but the spring Tulip season is a close second.  If I feel like staying around the market, I’ll eating as I go.  Grabbing a crumpet from The Crumpet Shop, a yogurt from Ellenos, and a Piroshky from Piroshky, Piroshky.  If I want something a little more formal I’ll take an Uber up to Capital Hill where there the neighborhoods are filled with a bunch of great unique places to eat.  (Oddfellows is my favorite.)

Before I moved to Seattle, all I really knew about the city was rain and flannel.  Like some kind of a lumberjack meets granola situation.  I was so pleasantly surprised when I discovered that there was so much more.  If you’d asked me about Timberland before I took these booties for a spin, I would have probably answered heavy duty work boots.  But I was so excited to find that they now create a bunch of really beautiful shoes and bags that are not only chic but have the same quality and durability that the brand is known for.  I have a serious crush on this tote bag (it’s perfect for traveling!) and you know I can never resist great leather peep-toe booties.  I walked all day in these babies, right out of the box and my feet never got sore once.  The footbed was so cushy, and the chunky heel and rubber outsole are were basically impervious to slipping.)  Perfect bootie for a day in Seattle.
