New England in the spring has got to be one of the most beautiful things I have literally ever seen. Everywhere I go it’s green and beautiful. Rolling hills, pretty farms and the bridges over the wide Connecticut river. I can’t believe how diverse and gorgeous our country is. I’ve lived in so many different places; the Arizona desert, the Pacific Northwest, central California, the midwest, Utah, and now New England. They’re all beautiful, in their own unique way.
The funny thing is, every where I’ve lived is so different, and I’ve still loved it. And I’ve found you can love living just about anywhere, the trick is to lean in. All the places I live I find people who kind of apologize for the place they live, or dislike it for some reason of another, Connecticut is so cold during the winter, it rains so much in Seattle, there’s only one season in Arizona: hot. Etc, etc. I always feel grateful that I’ve be able to live in so many different places, because when you go through change a lot, you also learn to adapt.
Part of adapting is learning to dive right in to where you are. Learn about all the gems, explore, enjoy all of it. (Even the “cruddy” weather times.) In Arizona, we would swim in February and it made it okay that it was already 95 degrees, in Seattle we spent so much time at the market, and on the sound, riding ferries and exploring and we didn’t care so much that it rained year-round. When is was ice-cold and snowing here in Connecticut, we sledded down the hill in our backyard and built big fires and drank lots of cocoa. There’s always a way to enjoy where you live. To love it, and to be proud of it.
That’s kind of true of any human experience though, isn’t it? Marriage, parenthood, a job, the home you live in… everything is better when you lean in and love it.
Here’s to a happy Monday!
ps. I know this is the second time in a week that I’ve worn these culottes, but it’s probably not the last time you’re going to see them on me. I’m leaning into the trend I guess. (Plus they are just the most fabulously comfortable pants ever, and I love the way they look paired with this pretty ruffle shirt, my favorite loafers and this awesome Brixton hat.)
