After our 4th NorEaster this month, I think I can speak for the rest of New England when I say, what the heck Mother Nature?! And I know, I know, I wrote that post about thriving through winter and all that (which I still believe) but whether you’re living in the Northern ice box or just enduring a little chilly weather right now, I thought it would be helpful to talk about what to do when you’re ready to dress for spring but the forecast still says winter.
I, like a lot of women right now, have been prepping for the warmer months by cleaning out my closet, dusting off my summer clothes and finding a few new pretty pieces to style for the new season. Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been my friend for pretty much all of March, and actually wearing any of these pieces has been a challenge. I want to wear them, but I also don’t want to be cold. And unfortunately, usually warmth wins… Like this adorable gingham dress, I snagged a few weeks ago for example. I’ve been dying to wear it, so I decided I would just style it so I could wear it now so I could channel that spring vibe and still be warm.
Here are a few tips for styling spring pieces while it’s still chilly out.
Add layers. Pull out your denim jackets and trench coats, they definitely have a springy vibe and they’ll keep you warmer. I love pairing my spring prints (gingham and stripes and florals) with a light jacket.
Start wearing your florals. This adorable pink floral shirt is perfect for spring, but it’s too chilly to wear on its own right now, think about pairing it with this long sweater for a sweet casual look or pair it with a leather jacket for a sweet/salty effect.
Booties are still your best friend. They can be styled in a more spring centered way, but they’ll still keep your little toesies warm, till the sun starts really shining.
Try tights with your spring dresses. If you’re feeling extra crazy, go for a pastel spring color!
If in doubt, find a spring colored sweater! I love this pink one and it’s on sale!
