creating a summer capsule with American Eagle.

*This post was sponsored by American Eagle Outfitters.  I’m thrilled to work with them.  Thank you so much for supporting the brands that I truly love.

Today I want to talk about building a summer capsule.  I create a capsule foundation at the beginning of every new season, and I always pick up a few new pieces to style throughout.  I am all about finding a brand you love that works for you and sticking to it like glue.  What I love about American Eagle Outfitters (well, there are a lot of things) is that I am obsessed with their denim, and I love that I can find capsule pieces to set me up for basically an entire season without breaking the bank.  With their frequent awesome promotions I’m able to snag great pieces for great prices.  Through May 19 they have buy 1 get 1 50% off on AE shorts and through May 21 use code YAYMAY to take $10 off $50, $25 off $100 and $40 off $150+.

When I’m building a capsule I love to choose great classic pieces that have a little extra flare, and they have to be versatile.  If I can’t make them work multiple ways, they don’t get the green light.  I love how  AE makes it easy to curate an amazing summer capsule wardrobe.

It is no secret that I am a huge AE fan girl.  Their options for petites alone are life changing, but their great denim and fresh styles really seal the deal.  This season they are knocking it out of the park with their gorgeous floral styles, breezy tops and all the distressed denim my little heart could hope for.

Today I am going to show you how I styled 6 different great AE capsule pieces 6 different ways.  Although each of these items can be styled lots of other ways, I limited myself to 6 (It was so hard though!  You know how I love to remix).  I decided to style 3 tops and 3 bottoms: this floral jumpsuit, these white girlfriend jeans, these shorts, this chambray top, this striped button down top and this easy striped tee.

Outfit #1: jumpsuit.(wearing XS Short) similar denim jacket. similar wedges. similar bag.

You guys, I am head over heels in love with this jumpsuit.  It’s beautiful, breezy, the most gorgeous print and details and best of all, it’s available in a short version, so it’s incredibly petite friendly.  I also love that I immediately thought of 7 different ways to style it.  So pretty and still versatile.  For this outfit I paired it with a classic denim jacket and some wedges.  It’s the perfect outfit for a casual night out.

Outfit #2: jumpsuit. shirt. similar bag. similar sunglasses. similar sandals.

For the second outfit, I went with a more daytime look.  I styled the jumpsuit with this super comfy chambray button up, and tied it at the waist for a fun twist, letting the top of the jumpsuit stick out a little.  I removed the waist sash and tied it in my hair as a headband (you could also wear it around a pony tail or even as a neck scarf).  This outfit is just such a fun summer look for the day, and super comfy.  AE has the best casual sandals right now, I am obsessed with this cute pair.

Outfit #3: Chambray shirt, white girlfriend jeans. similar bag. similar slides.

There are white skinny jeans everywhere this time of year, but I love mixing up the trend with a girlfriend cut.  It’s just a little more fun and relaxed and it’s a casual twist on the trend.  I styled them with the same chambray button up from the previous outfit, and then made it more interesting with the accessories.  I love how the right accessories can really make a relatively simple outfit.

Outfit #4: white girlfriend jeans. striped button down top. similar wedges. similar bag. similar sunglasses.

Styling these great girlfriend jeans again for this outfit, but I paired them with this perfect striped top.  This is the softest breeziest top I have literally ever worn, and it’s the quintessential capsule piece.  You can wear this top a hundred different ways, and the blue stripe is nice and neutral so it will go with everything.  It’s long and drapey and light enough you could even wear it as a swim cover-up.

Outfit #5: striped button down top. girlfriend Bermuda shorts. similar sandals. similar bag. similar sunglasses.

I’m not lying when I say that these shorts are the bomb.  I’m not a shorts-lover at all, in fact I avoid them like the plague, but I love these shorts.  I love the distressing, they’re comfy and flattering, and super on trend this season.  They’re also mom friendly.  I went up a size for a slouchier fit and styled them with the great button down from the last outfit.  It’s a perfect Saturday at the farmer’s market type outfit.

Outfit #6: striped t-shirt. similar denim jacket. shorts. similar hat. similar sandals.

I always stay pretty casual when I’m styling shorts, so for this look I went with an easy striped tee and a white denim jacket.  I’m a big fan of light easy layers for the summer months.  Things that can be easy tied around your waist, and are perfect for the cooler summer evenings.  This striped henley is so soft and I love the pin-stripe on the black.  (I went up a size for a looser fit.)

So there you have it!  6 great summer capsule pieces and endless style options.  Are you building a summer capsule this year?

Check out AE this week because they have some killer promotions happening, you can get all shorts buy one get one 50% off until May 19th.  Also, through May 21 use code YAYMAY to take $10 off $50, $25 off $100 and $40 off $150+.
