fall try-on session.

I popped into the mall last week.  Since we spent most of August in Europe, it was the first time I had been there in a month, and I was so happy to see that fall (at least on the racks) had arrived while we were gone.  So many great pieces!  I am obsessed with all the warm fall colors especially the burnt orange, and mustard yellow shades I’m seeing all over.  I’m including some of my favorite fall pieces in a little fall try-on today, as well as a list of some of the best sales happening this weekend at the bottom of the post.

If you have something specific you are looking to add to your wardrobe this fall, let me know in the comments and I’ll see if I can hunt it down for you!

I tried on this super cute colorblock long cardigan first. (I’m wearing an XS, would probably order an XXS.).  I love the colors and it is insanely soft.

I love this dark floral print top for fall, and it has a built-in gather in the front which I love!  I don’t even have to bother with the front tuck!  I’m wearing an XS and you can see how it looks from the side below.

Comes in a few different colors/prints.

Speaking of dark florals, I am in love with this dress with its dark but delicate floral, the peplum and the ruffle details.  It’s such a fun flirty dress for fall.  I’m wearing an XS and it fits like a glove.  Love the length as well and it’s price ($55).

Speaking of dress love… this casual little shirt dress totally stole my heart with those mustard stripes.  Such a perfect dress for wearing now while it’s still warm and then layering with sweaters and boots or jackets into the fall.

Loving these ultra high waisted wide leg crops from Free People.  I’m wearing a size 24 here and the fit was perfect.  They’re very stretchy and also flattering, (and I think forgiving).

I love this sweet little gathered chambray ruffle top.  I’m wearing an XS and it’s just a little roomy, I would definitely want to size down to an XXS.  Such a fun twist on a basic (and very versatile top).  Really great pieces to add to your capsule.

I am completely over the moon obsessed with this oversized tunic turtleneck sweater from Free People.  It comes in a bunch of colors but the burnt orange is my favorite.  It is insanely soft and super slouchy.  It would be super cute worn untucked with skinny jeans and flats, or leggings and   I love it tucked in as well.

I am seeing burnt orange everywhere this fall and I am so happy about it!  This polka dot top is so fun and perfect for fall to wear to the office and then throw on a pair of jeans for date night.  Just like the floral top above, it’s gathered in the front, I love it with these cropped high waisted jeans.

There are seriously no words to describe how much I love this off-white eyelet top.  At $92 it’s on the pricier side compared to what I normally would spend on a top, but I brought it home with me because it’s literally the perfect capsule piece.  I can think of at least a dozen ways to wear it, just with things I already have in my closet and I love that it is so versatile but still fun and interesting.

See how cute it looks with these orange wide leg pants!

Speaking of cute.  Could you actually just die over this sweater?  Madewell is knocking it straight out of the park this fall.  I am completely obsessed.  I thought it would be super itchy too when I saw it, but NOPE!  Soft, comfy, the arms aren’t too snug, and I love the quirky design on front. (I’m wearing an XXS.)

Okay, let’s go back to those burnt orange wide leg crops.  These are the coolest pants ever, you guys!  I’m in love with them.  I went back and forth between the size 24 and 25 because I have kind of a straight build.  The 25’s felt a little roomy and the 24’s felt a little snug.  I ended up going with the 24’s because I think I’m a little thick in the waist after all the pastries in Europe (whoops), hoping that falls off now that we’re home and eating healthier again, and the fabric is quite stretchy, if they stretch out at all during the day I feel like the 25 would look too baggy.  They hit right at my shoe line which is a little long for me (I folded them under in this image to the right length) so I will hem them.  Madewell offers free hemming on their denim to insiders.  (I think these qualify.)

Okay, this color block sweater, you guys.  There’s that burnt orange again (obsessed) the colors are so good in this sweater.  It’s ultra soft, the fit is right on point and it’s so cozy.  I’m wearing an XXS.

Speaking of perfect fall sweaters, this burnt orange one (there’s that color again!) definitely came home with me.  Such a pretty deep color.  It can be worn with so many great things.  Whenever I love a piece I’m trying on and I can also think of many, many ways to wear it right off the top of my head, I always bring that piece home and add it to my capsule… I bought an XXS.

This mustard floral embroidered top is the solution to the I want to dress like fall, but it still feels like summer problem.  It’s so cute! See how perfect it is the long cardigan above.  I’m wearing an XXS here.

I’m 5’1″ (live in Maine) and have been looking for a camel colored trench that hits right where it should on the thigh. Any suggestions? Looking for an investment piece, something classic that will last years. Have been looking for a couple of years and just haven’t found “the one.” Thanks!
