Let’s talk about Joanna Gaines’ new book: the perfect gift for a “Homebody.”

Sweater. (10% off right now with code: LAUNCH10) PJ pants. thermal. Book.  Glasses. slippers.

I just want to start this post with the disclosure that I was already a big Joanna Gaines fan before I bought her new design book, Homebody, for probably the same reasons that she is loved and adored around the world.  So I had high expectations of the book when I preordered it, but even still it managed to surprise and delight me.  As Joanna always seems to be able to do.  The woman is magic.

Here’s why  her new design book makes the perfect gift this Christmas.

1. Everybody loves Joanna.  Have you ever met anyone who doesn’t like Joanna Gaines?  She’s like the Walt Disney of our generation, impossibly talented, inspiring, good hearted and unbelievably likable.  I’m sure there’s someone out there who doesn’t like Joanna, but honestly I don’t want to know that human.  They must live a sad, sad life… I can’t imagine any girl I know (and probably several guys too) who wouldn’t be happy to get a book by JoJo.

2. It’s beautiful.  This book is so pretty.  It makes a lovely coffee table book (really, though.  It’s on my coffee table right now: see this picture.) Even the design of the book cover was thoughtfully done.  And the pictures inside, the matte texture of the pages… don’t even get me started.

3. It’s a really great design book.  I’ve done 2 quick one hour thumb throughs on the book and now am a couple parts into the deep dive reading of the book.  And I can already see how it’s going to help me become a better designer of my own home.  There are so many inspiring pictures and so many helpful nuggets of wisdom Joanna shares, plus she’s included a section for notes and an area to design and sketch out your own spaces.  See what I mean about surprise and delight?

4. She’s actually a really great writer.  This doesn’t surprise me, because I got “The Magnolia Story” (also a great gift idea) for Christmas 2 years ago and LOVED the book, but Joanna is a great writer.  And more than that, the way she writes and her approach to life is refreshing, down-to-earth, will make you want to do and be better, and even more, will make you feel like you are capable of actually doing and being better.  I know, that seems deep for a design book, but all you have to do is read the introduction and you’ll see what I mean.  After a lot of frustrating months of being “stuck” in my own house’s design I feel free and inspired again.

So there you have it.  If you wish to gift this book, (or have “Santa” bring it to you;-) it’s on sale this week for $23(normally $40)  right here.  And you can even have it gift wrapped and shipped right to the persons door.

(PS. the super cozy cardigan I am wearing above is one of my favorite pieces from my new shop, So Provincial.  We’re having a launch sale this week!  10% off your order with the code: LAUNCH10)

I was so impressed with your Insta Story about the book I ordered it for my designer/artist dd14. My mom had a similar book when I was growing up and it totally taught me how to see where furniture can go without moving it. Of course it was a SEVENTIES design book so it didn’t hang around. My hope is that Joanna’s book will be transformative in the same way for my daughter.

  2. Hi little miss cori! I was looking at your So Provincial shop and was wondering about the small sizes. I’m petite like you, just over 5’ and wear. Size 0 – 2, and would like to know how the small size fits?

Love your blog and your style – so cute.

P.S I have the new J. Gains book and will be doing a write up on my blog. She really provides an abundance of inspiration.

The size smalls in the shop fit TTS, so on me they are a little roomy (my typical size is 00-0) and I’m 4’11”. I plan to stock smaller sizes very soon in the future as well! Thanks so much!

Actually I have a wonderful life and many friends and I don’t particularly care for Joanna Gaines. I have been watching her show on HGTV for many years because I loved her designs … however, in the early days, her kids always looked warily at her like they were scared of her. I think she may be a very strict mother (too strict if your kids are afraid of you). And then the dad Chip would overcompensate by playing with the kids as if he were a kid also! Just sayin … (this is my personal memory of what I saw on TV)
