7 things to help you slow down and actually enjoy the Christmas season.

Hello lovelies.  I wanted to take a little break from all the Christmas frenzy for a day and just take a little breather.

Consider this your friendly December 4th reminder, to slow down and remember just what and why this season is so special.  Lots of fun content coming at you later this week and next, more gift guides, holiday recipes, a winter travel capsule, and more… but today, just stop, and smell the Christmas trees.  Slow down.  Enjoy the spirit of the season.

Here are 7 things to do to help you slow down and actually enjoy the Christmas season:

Sing Christmas songs with your kids.  We sat around the piano on Sunday night and just sang carols and Christmas hymns.  No muss, no fuss, just good old fashioned Christmas songs.  And singing them together was a simple, and fun way to usher in the spirit of the season.

Paint your nails red.  (or if you are like me and cannot for the life of you do a decent paint job on your nails, go get them done.)  Take an hour to slow down and change your nail color to something festive.  If you are painting your own nails, turn on a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie and make an evening of it.

Enjoy a quiet evening by the Christmas tree.  Make yourself a cup of cocoa just before bed, turn off all the lights and just sit next to that lovely glow while you sip away.  There is nothing so peaceful.

Read Luke 2.  In the morning as part of your devotional or scripture study time, read Luke 2, early in the season.  Read it a few times this month to keep remembering the why of the season.

Watch this Nativity video with your family.  It’s short and beautiful.  While you’re at it, watch this as well.  Bring tissues.

Bake your family’s favorite Christmas treat with your kids.  Enjoy while watching Home Alone!

Give yourself grace.  If you are like me, you have big aspirations for all the things you want to do this season, and sometimes that reminds me how much I’m falling short.  Give yourself some grace and give.

I have been doing almost all of these this season (down to the red nails!) and it has been so peaceful and calm. Being intentional about enjoying the holidays has been so key formy family and I. Great tips!
