Winter travel capsule.

Coat.(similar here and here.) Sweater dress. tights. boots. hat. scarf. similar luggage.

Well we are just a week out from Christmas, (yay!) and I know a lot of you are getting ready to pack up and travel for the holiday, so today I am sharing what I hope you will find to be a very helpful winter travel capsule!  I’ve talked so much about capsule theory, seasonal capsules, and good capsule pieces, and to me one of the best uses of this is when it comes to packing.  By being intentional about what you put in your suitcase, you’re able to pack less, and get more outfits.  You’re able to spend more time on your trip enjoying your trip instead of trying to figure out what to wear, you’ll feel great in your clothes, and you will not have to haul a huge amount of luggage around the airport, train, car, etc. while still having exactly what you need each day.

For more info on the basics of capsules and how to make them work for you/ why they work so, so well, just go search capsule and all my past posts should pop up!

Now onto the winter travel capsule.

red sweater. white sweater. black sweater. denim shirt. striped tissue turtleneck. sweater dress. pom beanie. plaid scarf. red socks. white socks. skinny jeans. velvet leggings. red buffalo check skirt. red pajamas. tan parka. black parka. OTK Boots. red flats. snow boot wedges. black booties.

I’m kind of passionate about being a ninja when I pack.  I actually get a rush from realizing how many outfits I can make from just a few well-chosen pieces and I love it so much when it all fits in a carry-on.  It’s seriously the best feeling in the world, to be packed relatively light, and know that you have literally everything you need for a stylish trip.  Each of the pieces above were carefully selected because they are versatile, easy to style lots of different ways, while still packing a big style punch.  (Pun intended.)  Besides coats and accessories, there are really only 9 items in this travel capsule (5 tops, two pants, a skirt and a dress.)  But there are probably 30-40 ways you can style this group of pieces, and to get your creativity going I’ve included 9 different combinations below.

Things to keep in mind when packing for winter travel:

  • Wear your bulkiest boots and coat while you travel.  It will leave a lot more room in your suitcase.
  • Scarves, hats and even tops and sweaters can be rolled and will fit much better in your bag.
  • Vacuum bags are a great idea to help slim down bulky sweaters and pants.
  • Bring a few plastic bags along for wrapping your boots.  Streets and sidewalk are much dirtier and covered in road salt this time of year, it can make packing back up at the end a little tricky.
  • Plan the outfits you’ll wear each day before you put the items in your suitcase.  This is a good way to see if you have superfluous items and adios them before you leave, and save yourself space!  You also won’t have to think about what to wear each day which means more time for fun on your trip!

I am confused. The red coat you are wearing in the photos is not in the capsule. What am I missing?

unfortunately it’s sold out in red so I tried to include a coat that is in stock. It’s the same coat as the tan just in a different color.
