Can you believe we are only 3 days out from New Years eve? Where did this year go? I know I shared a casual NYE look earlier this week, but I thought I would give you a couple dressier options as well, since I am sure some of you are going to be going out to celebrate the countdown. I’m on a real velvet kick right now, so I thought it would be fun to show you 2 easy ways to style velvet pants for New Years, and really any time you want to get dressed up this winter. These would work just as well for a date night with your hubby.
I’m styling these amazing velvet pants from Madewell. They come in 2 colors, a deep green and this wine color. I love them both but I just have such a weakness for any shade of Bordeaux, so I decided to style those today. I love that these can work as holiday pants, but they’re not super Christmasy, so you can keep styling them through the winter season. I cannot wait to pair them with my new ankle booties, and a leather jacket.
Outfit idea #1: With a silk blouse.
velvet pants. silk blouse. nude pumps. long necklace.
One of my favorite things about these pants is the great movement and drape they have. They’re so gorgeous and velvet is such a beautiful fabric when it moves and catches the light, I thought it would be pretty to pair the pants with another fabric that drapes beautifully. Silk. I bought this silk blouse from Everlane a few years ago, and it’s one of my favorites. Everlane makes THE best silk shirts, and you cannot beat the price on them. A silk blouse is definitely something you want to incorporate into your capsule foundation. Silk is one of those magic fabrics that can be worn in just about every season, and it’s insanely soft and comfortable. It layers well and always look classic and refined. Just as gorgeous with a pair of jeans as with a tweed skirt or a pair of velvet pants!
Outfit idea #2: With a turtleneck sweater.
velvet pants. similar sweater. nude pumps. clutch. necklace.
Another fun way to wear these velvet pants is with a turtleneck sweater. A pretty cream colored turtleneck is always part of my winter capsule because its versatility cannot be beat. I love that you can style the piece 100 different ways and that it can be easy to dress up with a more formal piece, like these velvet pants. I grabbed my leopard clutch for this look, just to give the outfit a little pattern punch.
Have you tried the velvet trend yet? Here are a few more fun pieces to try-out if you’re interested in the trend:
