Hi guys! Happy Friday! Today I wanted to share how I totally transformed the look of our master bedroom, just by simply updating our window treatments. I also wanted to share my favorite farmhouse window treatments combination, and some of the reasons why I love it so much. I seriously cannot believe what a huge impact such a small project has had on our space. If you haven’t thought about updating your window treatments, seriously consider giving it a try.
So when we moved into our house our master bedroom was this sad gray color. I like gray just fine, but this was like a non-commital gray which just made it sad. There was nothing but old white faux wood blinds on the windows and some ugly curtain rods the previous owners left behind. As I’ve been freshening up our room, doing little projects here and there, I knew I wanted to tackle the windows.
Here’s how the room looked before:
these were taken literally less than a week after we moved in.
And here’s how it looked after I removed the old rods, and painted the walls white. (We also did a shiplap statement wall on the opposite side.)
And here’s the after!
I decided to go with bamboo shades as opposed to blinds because I love the natural warmth and texture they add to the room. Plus they are light filtering, the room never feels blacked out. (I hate that.) These are super easy to install and very affordable, so they are a great way to really update and change up the look of a room without spending a ton of money. They are also cord-free and come in basically every single size you could need. I love this light natural color.
For curtains, I went with these beautiful white Ritva curtains from Ikea. These are literally my favorite white curtains of all time. They are so affordable (these are on sale right now for $22!), they look beautiful and they are easy to hang. I can’t even remember the last time I bought white curtains that weren’t these ones. They come in a few different lengths so you can grab whatever works for your space. I wanted ours to puddle at the bottom because I just think it adds a lot of drama and romance to a space so I went with the 98″ length. I may shorten them a bit in the future, but right now I am loving the look.
A few tips for hanging curtains: To make your windows look bigger and wider, always hang your curtains 4-7 inches above the top of your window and 3-5 inches wider. This will give your room the appearance of taller ceilings and it will make your window look bigger and taller as well.
I have a new piece of art on it’s way for between the two windows and I can’t wait to show it to you next week! And then there’s just finding new lights to replace the boob lights, and choosing a rug, which I have been soooo indecisive on. Any suggestions?
So what do you think? How do you feel about bamboo shades? Have you done a small project that had a big impact lately?
What color white did you use on your bedroom walls and trim?
It’s such a pretty white!
